We have *touch wood* not had a parvo case for a long long time...have only seen a few confirmed cases in my 3ish years in practice thankfully.

Only seen one case of parvo this year and that was at the beginning of the year. Unvaccinated staffy who the owners had left for 3 days!!! Died within half an hour of arriving at the hospital

There are so many new strains of parvo now, I dont think any vaccine will cover them all. We had a couple of outbreaks last year on vaccinated and un vaccinated dogs, the one who brought it here did come form down south to a rescue centre up here, and basically spread it....., before this I had only seen 1 confirmed case in my entire career .

Anyway I got the virbac rep out after case 3, and Interferon will only do any good within the first few days, after that there is no point. Most vaccinated cases, although new strains with IVFT etc should make a full recovery... and lifetime cover, but some who are either un vaccinated, or vaccinated and left too long, .... usually end up dead.

ok another question(s)

what brands of vaccines are involved here?

ie is it just one particular manufacturer?

are we looking at confirmed cases of parvo or cases of haemorhagic gastroenteritis which is suspicious of parvo?

I used to see many cases of 'parvo' during the course of a year while working in charity hospital, the isolation kennels were very rarely empty - but when it came down to it many that were tested didnt turn out to be parvo at all.

I know I am asking a lot of questions but is it

a breakdown in vaccine

a new strain of parvo not covered by the current vaccines

none of the above?

We had a case confirmed over Easter period sometime, 8 year old vaccinated dog. Been vaccinated all its life, and wasn't due again til October. Luckily she got through it but looked a bit dicey for a while.

They had vaccs at 8/9 weeks then 2 weeks later - please to say that current puppy has improved greatly since starting Interferon - hopefully she has turned the corner

We had 2 Labs with Parvo in last week. One died, one did okay. They had their 1st vaccines but weren't old enough for 2nds.

We're offering a 3rd Parvo at 16 weeks regardless of breed now. However all our recent cases do seem to be Labradors.[quote user="littlehays"]

I'm in that area too, I float across Medivet's sw and se London branches. I have not heard of any but I am working at the Richmond 24 hour referral hospital on the weekend so will see then.

Ah so pleased to hear! I hope she is well, ask her if she remembers Amber . One time I will never forget is when we had been talking about Pizza Hut and the phone rings, she answers 'Good afternooooon, Pizza Hut'!! Hilarious I tell you!! God love her - she prob won't remember. She will remember Hannah though who I worked with at that time.

What vets in Sidcup do you work? I used to work in Parkers, in Station Road about 8 years ago
