Just got back temp was high 38.3 C and he basically said my throat was very inflammed he thinks I just have a nasty virus that is going round, am on amoxicillin for 3 times a day for 14 days and he pescribed some codeine cough syrup. He said if it didnt settle the cough tonight then I should go to the on call docs and have a nebuliser. I am hoping the codiene knocks me out and I can sleep.

thank you all for your replies managed to get a couple of hours sleep last night, am off to the doctors this afternoon. feel rubbish!

That all sounds just like when I had glandular fever. It feels like you are trying to swallow glass and your mouth tastes awful. I would go to the docs asap. you might need iv antibioics to get rid of the infection in your throat.

Gargle with 300mg asprin in a 1/4 mug hot/warm water helps the inflamation have found it very useful over the last few months with my throat and massive problems.

have you got anything with codeine in it? it help suppress coughs. it sounds like you really should ring nhs direct for advice, they have gp lead centres that are open all night.
