Degree students would still be able to get the normal student loans - as far as I am aware any student irrespective of situation is entitled to a loan for full amount of tuition fees, then 'maintenance' loans depend on situation (I think only people that had already done a degree might get no help at all)

heard a few bits today.

no funding at all for graduates - fees of about £4000 a year now.

possibly only your 'clinical coach' (mentor) can witness the stuff you do. you have to be shown how to do it, log it online every time you do it, say when you feel competent and are then tested on it. fine for everyday things but questions have been raised about things that don't come up all the time - like specific emergencies. 2 hours a week online 'work'.

You need to check with your own centre. The RCVS has stipulated how many learning hours have to be covered but each centre has the ability to work out the course themselves.

Myerscough are still doing a one-day per week, 2 year day release course, but are making up the extra learning hours with self-taught internet based learning in practice - which will total 3 hours per week for 40 weeks. They are also increasing the block release from 7 to 8 weeks per year.

I have enrolled onto the full time level three vet nursing course starting in September. Not a lot is known yet but I'll be at college two days a week, three in a practice in the first year and one day in college, four in a practice in the second year plus will have to do two weeks at a vets during the summer. I start on the 9th of September. I'll be going to the College of Animal Welfare in Godmanchester. You must of completed two weeks of work experience before starting the course, I'm doing my first week of experience next week. The course will be £1450 a year plus awarding body fees and I've been asked to buy my own uniform.

Hi Kirsty,

My VNAC Head of Centre is going to a meeting at the RCVS re: new training scheme on the 26th May, so no-one will know anything until then (I believe).

Most VNAC's will then disseminate the information to the TP's, and then everyone will start to understand the new format.....but until then everyone is still in the dark I'm afraid.

Try not to get too stressed about it - the first intake of the new training scheme will unfortunately be the 'guinea pigs' and suffer the worst of the problems that arise - it is inevitable, and exactly what happened when they went from the old RCVS qualification to the NVQ. Be patient - the colleges are just as frustrated as all of the potential & existing students, assessors & TP's!!
