With regards to sale's to get experience look round for small companies who look for sales people but can not pay a lot and see if you can do part time work with them. It is a start, will be hard but gets you experience.

Re: how become a rep

Slighytly off topic, but with (some) due respect isn't RIG AHR just a new arm of RIG Vet.....

I was sent plenty of jobs that matched my criteria but as soon as i applied for any I either never heard anything again or I got a phone call saying I wasnt suitable. When i questioned this the advice seemed to be that I would have more luck finding vacancies myself and applying direct rather than using an agency. Thanks for the offer anyway though.

Re: how become a rep

Hi there,

I have registered with a few of the agencies but have already had bad experiences. For example, i applied for a job via an agency and was immediately rejected on the basis of having no sales experience. I then worked out which company the job was with and applied direct and got through to 1st and 2nd interviews but was told they had my CV from the agency in the first place and had asked to see me for interview and couldnt understand why the agency rejected the application. I've been a bit sceptical ever since.

Thanks for the tip about asking existing reps- i will definately try that one!

Thanks Again,

It does depend on the company you are looking to work for. I've been a rep for three years with Animalcare, had no sales experience but have an animal and teaching background plus other bits. I also have a degree in animal science, like you, and that will set you in good stead for sales. BUT, you may have noticied that there are lot of mergers and redundances going on at the mo, so companies are now more looking for people with sales experience as well as a technical background. There's a lot of competition of jobs so it will be difficult to get into a role at the moment, unfortunately.

You need to register with recruitment agencies - try Zenopa, Brookfield, Noble Futures as a starting point. Speak to your local reps too and sound them out about their companies and if there is any openings (not necessarily as a rep first off, but anything else).

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I have just finished a degree in animal welfare and would really like to work in veterinary sales. I have over 5 years of experience in a wide range of animal related jobs and thought this would put me in a good position for a sales role. I have always thought that the best reps that we see are the ones that have the animal/veterinary background, but I am finding that when I apply for jobs the feedback I get is that they are more interested in candidates with sales experience (in any field) rather than those of us with veterinary experience but no sales experience.

Re: how become a rep

I'd be rubbish at being a rep!
