You definitely did the right thing and were extremely brave in doing so, well done. I once hit 2 badgers who just appeared out of nowhere on a very dark very frosty morning 9 years ago. I almost drove into the hedge trying to avoid them but the car wouldnt stop, just kept sliding. I got myself composed, reversed back and they were nowhere to be seen. They were definitely injured as my front spoiler was broken. I cried the rest of the day and I often wonder, even now, how they faired out.

Re: rta cat

I would have done the same as you if i was in that situation i think. If i found a cat at the side of the road i think i'd also pick it up to scan for a chip etc, i couldn't just leave it and leave the owners wandering.

Re: rta cat

Thank you so much everyone who has replied, like you I couldn't leave him on the road. I have been known tostop and pick up other RTA cats when I havent even been involved. Once I was driving home about 7pm saw a cat at the side of the road, Obv didn't have a scanner on me and I was working about 20 miles away and was nearly home, so ended up ringing a practice I used to work at and was still on such good terms I still had the OOH mobile number, turns out they were still in the practice dealing with another emergency so I explained things and went down, they let me in and I went around scanning the cat,, first thing we ever did at that practice was to check the chip number against their records and it turned out to be one of their clients cats who had wandered a fair way from home. I knew I had done the right thing despite knowing it was dead, I couldn't just leave it on the side of the road

Re: rta cat

You totally done the right thing!!!!
My cat was killed by an RTA recently, and the guy who was driving was so apologetic - and that meant a lot! That he had taken the time to stop, and try and see the kitty right! So often it happens that people hit a cat and just leave it.

In my case, I was on the scene, but only by circumstance, and the poor guy who hit my kitty was in tears, and offered to pay her crem fee - when I refused, he sent £20 in the post a few days later.

I think leaving your contact details is defiantly the right thing to do - wouldn't we all rather know what happened to our kitty rather than it just disappear? I have been there also, and the not knowing is the hardest part...
