Whilst studying counselling it can often bring past memories to the surface and sometimes they may need to be addressed - and sometimes it really helps to have somebody around to talk to.

if you do decide to do counselling dont forget the most important person - you, it can get you down if you dont

Funny you should say that, I went to the Hill's VNA weekend course a few years back and we had a lady in for an hour (sorry I forget her name) she is a human councillor and has extended her expertise to the animal sector and half way through she evoked some emotion me which I hadn't realised I had concealed and to be fair it was shocking! It brought up a lot of emotion connected with grand parents and I was not expecting this.

My special interests are bereavement counselling, a wonderful service offered to our clients and others suffering following the loss of their pet. My other passion is feline medicine am currently studying the FAB nursing course which is very informative and would highly recommend it to others!
Hiya, can I just ask which berevement course you did please? I looked into it a while back and got put off as someone told me that I couldn't effectively council anyone if I wasn't already trained as a human councillor??

Thanks!
I completed about half of the PBBS course run through SCAS and the Blue Cross before changing jobs. I found it hard going - but maybe its just me? I had already completed counselling courses prior to this and did get a really good training through cruise and sands and another caring charity

I think the important thing to remember is that counselling and support are often as near as dammit the same thing under another name (ok maybe a few differences) so even if you dont have counselling qualifications you are still able to offer support and support can be just as valuable to somebody in need

many colleges offer counselling skills as a night class if you wanted to go this route and I would choose this instead of a correspondence course. Whilst studying counselling it can often bring past memories to the surface and sometimes they may need to be addressed - and sometimes it really helps to have somebody around to talk to.

my boss has a photonic therapy laser and offers it to clients... well she has had it for over a year but hasnt pushed it hard enough.i my self have tried acupuncture for my chronic back pain and have found huge success, but i am willing to try the laser. i asked my physio and he had never heard of it, but the one we have in clinic is for animals but is also used on humans. it is a monochromatic light that acts on the classical acupuncture points, other clinics i know have found success with this therapy, they claim it cheap, pain free and doesnt stress the animal. has anyone else used this therapy before in animals for arthritis, broken legs, spinal cases? would be interesting to find out more info, there isnt much online and other opinions would be great.

Hi I have worked in a practice where this type of accupunture was used. A visiting therapsit (who started out orginally as a VN, then trained in human accupunture as now offers this service too) had serveral dogs reffered to her for various complaints. OA related pain in hips etc. Many owner reported the dog seemed more comfortable after the treatment. My most favourate use of the therapy is with Aural Heamatomas.!

in regards to my own specalist interest it is obvioulsy nutrition with my city and guilds certificate, but also client care and preventative care. I enjoy the client contact and the oppertunity to help prevent / reduce the incidence / ensure the animal is reciving 100% holistic care, ie tablets on their own do not work, the environment and the care given to the patient needs to be correct to.
