Blame it on being very tired after a long week lol!! I have given this a lot of thought since I typed that lastnight and I have since changed bank accounts, but when I get home from work this evening I am going to go through all my statements.

Although I say recruit4vets, I found them very good - until that happened, but then, it was the umbrella finance guys I suppose (Danbro) and not in fact the locum agency.

was sorry to hear about your experience Paula - for me recruit4vets which used to be Northern Health Solutions was the best agency I have ever worked for. There are a few that I wouldnt touch with a very long bargepole tho!

Be VERY careful when working for an agency.

In my first ever locum position my agency was www.recruit4vets.co.uk

I got the exact same pay every week - I am sure of that. However, I wasnt very good at keeping my paperwork and some may have got dumped.

Out of the blue I got a surprise phonecall followed by a letter to say they had paid me double pay for 1 week - now, I am 100% sure if I had received double pay, I would have known about it, but because I didnt keep my paperwork, I couldnt prove it.

I know for sure I DID NOT receive double pay. Anyhow, to cut a long story short www.recruit4vets.co.uk are now taking me to court for almost £400 - rather than have to go to court and face more charges, I have had to take out a loan to pay them back - for something I never owed them in the first place.

I think standard rates with most agencies are £10-12. I've been locumming since january, have had one on £11, one on £10, and now I'm on £9.75, but it's a long-term contract & teh agency I'm with allow me to claim expenses for travelling & meals too, so bumps it up quite well.

Hi, I have charged between £10-12 per hour, but as already mentioned, it depends on the type of practice you work for. At a busy place, where I had more responsibilities, £12, but currently in a quiet practice and my work0load just does not justify that much, so I charge £10 per hour. I think £14 per hour would not be unjustified in a busy practice.

I would very much advocate not using agencies AT ALL, I have only used them once and it caused nothing but problems and almost cost me the job, as the practice couldn't afford what the were charging.

I have had no problems finding locum jobs on this site and from word-of-mouth. Send out your cv to all local practices, they often keep a database of available locum nurses. Infact, I know of one in Liverpool at the mo, if you are interested!!

I find I usually get 10-12/hr .. but i use rigvets who are supposed to be pretty bad when it comes to pay.

I have signed up with a few more agencies since but not yet taken a job from then so dunno how they compare

I would not say it depends on what part of the country, more where it is....ie Vet schools or one man bands.

I have worked all over and was paid differently each place, and believe it or not London was the worst paid... however it was for a charity, and I wanted to go to Wimbledon...

Mine ranged from 11-14/hr and that was a couple of yrs ago.

as usual it depends on the area of the country you are looking to work in.

dont forget that since you havent been nursing for a while you need to have a period of supervised guidance when you get back into practice
