I know exactly how your feeling, with not eating without causing extreme pain, i cried myself to sleep several nights until i saw dentist. I had root canal done on mine asdentist said it was worth trying to save the tooth, but id prob need to get it crowned, which im having done in another month or so. My glands on neck swelled and i found that for myself alternating with hot and cold packs around my neck and cheek on side of affected tooth helped soothe abit.

Steph, thanks for you advice. Ibuprofen seems to be keeping it under control at the moment as its def not as sore as it was lastnight and I managed to have a reasonable nights sleep.

I will see what today brings, but will def need a dentist soon

Re: Ouch......broken tooth

Not sure how much an implant costs but might be worth asking and see if it's an option. Especially since it's the weekend. Your only other option would be to pay for a private dentist, but most do not do weekends! So Emergency room would be your first call. They can give you some pain relief and take some x-rays to see what the extent of the damage is. if the tooth has been broken down the root, which would most likely be the cause of the abscess you will need it to be removed completely and you will either need a bridge or no tooth! :( Anti-bs will sort out the infection, but the tooth will need removing. Clove oil and gargling with salt water will help in the mean time. So sorry you're not well. Codine is your friend! :)

Re: Ouch......broken tooth

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Over the years I had LOTS of problems with abcesses with one tooth in particular - got it pulled and have not had one since. And dental abcesses are SOOOO painful!

The tooth in question I had extracted concious with local, and HATED the experience! The dentist was doing exactly what we do to animals, and hanging on to my mandible, whilst PULLING and TWISTING on my tooth! Eeek!

It didn't hurt due to the local, but the sensation of tugging and twisting was awful! I needed another tooth extracted a few years later and requested GA! Was in and out of the hospital in less time than a dog would be in the vets! Admitted at 7am, out by 2pm!

I was given strong co-codamol as an analgesic, and had to have someone with me for 24 hrs due to the GA (lil man didn't count - had to rope my big sis in LOL).

Would recommend getting it pulled - under local if you are 'Strong!', UGA if you are a wuss like me!
