Are you paying for it yourselves or getting funding from college? I know the part time route is funded by the practice you are working in. Nothing really to worry about, just a multiple choice thing. I only got a level one on my maths so was panicking but I still got my place so I wouldn't worry too much.

They asked me to fill in a form saying why I wanted to be a vet nurse and why I wanted to train at CAW. In my interview they didn't really ask me much, just said I had a place then asked why I wanted to be a nurse and what pets I had. I was there for just over two hours.

Good luck with your interview!
Thank you! I don't think it's quite sunk yet. Have to keep telling myself I'm going to be a student nurse :) Have to complete two weeks of experience before starting the course, have the first 17th-21st of May so really looking forward to that.
One question i know they will ask me and i am a bit stuck on how to answer it. They are going ask me do i know how much science is involved? Well with anatomy and physiology, i have a fair idea but i can't just say, yes i know. How can i prove it? I didn't do a science subject in school.

There is a fair bit of Science involved... apart from Anatomy and Physiology, you will have some chemistry (lab work, fluid therapy, pharmacy etc) and physics -Radiography.

Re: College Interview

congrats and enjoy

Re: College Interview

Thank you! Can't wait. It might be easier to get into it without work experience at a vet's, i don't know. I am going for an animal care course and i can progress and do veterinary nursing in the second year. It's recognised by the veterinary council of ireland, so that's all i want. The course sounds great. The first year is made up of animal care, welfare, begaviour, grooming, anatomy and physiology, nursing and work experience once a week. And second year has the whole nursing modules like surgical nursing, medical nursing, radiography, laboratory techniques, and work experience two days a week. I can't wait.

The reason why i say, it might be easier to get into is because first year is an animal care course. I have experience at a shelter. I have a distance learning course done in animal care and i have a canine first aid course done. That would have to look good. I just have to spend the next few months harassing the vets for work experience.

One question i know they will ask me and i am a bit stuck on how to answer it. They are going ask me do i know how much science is involved? Well with anatomy and physiology, i have a fair idea but i can't just say, yes i know. How can i prove it? I didn't do a science subject in school.

Can i tell them that i have an animal biology book already and i have been reading up on it, which i have been?

Re: College Interview

Thanks for the advice. Is a bit difficult at the moment as working and saving every penny so I can afford to go to college full time. So it's very hard to find any spare time! Having worked out my finaces though I should be able to afford leave work on the 14th of August and get some two - three weeks work experience in before starting college. I will ring round some vets this week and see if I can sort something out. I had an intervew a few months ago and the head nurse said I'd be able to come back and do work experience so have to see if that offer is still open! The full tme course seems to be my only option at the moment and I don't want to miss out just due to lack of work experience

Re: College Interview
I have 11 GCSEs at A*-C so I know I'm alright qualification wise (although only have the copies of the certificates at the moment as have sent the orginals off for my RCVS enrolment). I haven't done any work experience though apart from a day at one vets and half a day at another. I didn't think work experience was necessary to get on the course?
i would definately try and line up some more work experience in a vet practice if enroling for the full time course, one to two weeks would be better. It's not such an issue with the day release course because you are already employed for this course. The work experience is designed to ensure that this profession is definately what you want and there are no nasty surprises that cause you to have change of heart well into your couse, and believe me, it does happen. Don't worry if you havent completed any work experience by the time you go for your interview, but if you can say that you have it planned over the summer and you can get a reference from the work experience placment to bring with you to college, there should be no problems.

Hi

I REALLY don't know if work experience is necessary, but I know it helps. When is your interview? Could you start to line up some work ex before then, so you can tell them you will doing a week work ex starting on such and such a date? Or even actually get some more time at a vets in before then?

I had only done a weeks work ex before I got my first job

This is a procedure that is completed to ensure you have chosen the correct course and that it is right for you too! You will have the course explained to you and have the opportunity to ask any questions, you will probably have a very basic screening (and I mean basic) for English and Maths to see if you require additional support - so that any support (if required) can be put in place ready for you to start in September. This screening is very beneficial and you should not worry about it - it will not affect your enrolment at all. If everything is in place, i.e. correct qualifications, work experience completed etc, you are well on your way to starting college in September. Relax, be yourself and stop worrying!

Re: College Interview

I'll be going to the College of Animal Welfare in Huntingdon.
