if your interested in checking out the cook islands in the pacific (just off New Zealand) try the esther honey foundation http://www.estherhoney.org/EHF_Honey.htm. one nurse i know is currently over there for 6 weeks and loving it. you gan volunteer for as long as you like. we got donations from our clients, wholesalers and other vet clinics for (swabs, drugs etc) to give to the foundation.. while your over there you could check out NZ and australia

I am going on a project in Sept with a group called Conservation Africa. They do gap years as well as volunteer programmes in Africa and Mauritius. I am going to South Africa to work with a vet who is one of the vets in Kruger Nat Park - we will be working with all the big game and also at his clinic. The group are very efficient and safe and have lots of different projects. You can find them on the net easily.

Worldwide Veterinary Service http://www.wvs.org.uk/ have been recommended to me by many people. I think its mostly small animal work but I think they do have a few projects with larger animals.
