I got my first unit (avain) delivered today I'm excited about starting but that wont be untill I've finished my exams in July. They haven't asked me to pay yet, I guess they will send me an invoice or something??

Google maps says it is a 12 minute drive away. Someone told me the hotel they suggested (can't remember the name and can't find the bit of paper) wasn't in a very nice area. The Marriot is around £140 for a double room (I'm staying with a friend) so it does work out a bit cheaper than the other place because we are sharing.

Tee hee, I've booked a room now, staying at the Marriot. I've booked to go on the witchery tour aswell which should be fun!

I'm doing Unit 5 on the small mammal at the moment, it made my brain hurt reading it :(

They said in the letter that it is festival time around then so to book asap :) I have not done so yet though lol

Its the same for the exotic one, my practice did me a cheque to pay for the course and have just sent another cheque for the exam.

I'm coming from Southend on Sea, so I'm gonna fly up to Edinburgh. I'm not sure where I am staying yet, probably should sort that out......

I was asked to pay for the Cert SAN upfront and then they send the course work out to you when is required. Near the end you will receive the exam application form which is payable before you sit it.

i looked into the course a few months ago. I got all the information through regarding price, exam dates etc but there was nothing about how you pay it, ie do you pay it outright, installments, do they bill my work?? do you have to pay before you start?

any help would be appreciated!!

where are you traveling from?? Do you know where you are going to stay yet??

I am going by train from loughborough in the middlands, not sure where I am staying yet as my practice are paying for it and the hotel the college has said is £94 a night

Don't worry about the practicles they are nothing like the RCVS nursing exams, they are much more relaxed. I did mine for the Cert SAN and there where only 2 other people there with me!

Expect to go into a huge room and rattle around it for an hour or two, There was one lady watching over us but she wasn't there to examine what we where doing she was only there to make sure that we didn't cheat.

I chatted to her before and afterwards and she was very nice indeed.

I'm not sure whether i'm going to defer or not, like you i am really not that self motivated!!

I was also shocked at the practical bit!!!

Thanks claire :) It is the practicals I am most worried about as you are "on the spot" and there are no print outs like in the RCVS exam, but as you say its more questions.

I am just trying so sort all travel and bits now!! Would love to hear from anyone going this year :)

I did it last year (and passed!). The practicals are basically 20 stations that you have 3 minutes at each. You rotate around the room so the practicals last 1 hour. They were basically a question either with or without a photo say on T tube size for a bird, where to take blood sample from on a gecko, what family a seal was from etc - quite easy questions if you have done the course work!

I really enjoyed doing my C&G Exotic course and would recommend it if you are interested in exotics....though did think that some of it was a bit pointless as you would never use it (seals, crocodiles etc!).

I think this course is good if you are very self motivated ( I am not lol) as there are no set deadlines except the exam date. I also think it is very useful to have an exotic vet in your practice as I have had to go to work with lots of questions and needing things explaining to me as its quite hard to teach yourself just off paper :)

Hi, when I did it lots of bits of equipment to name and describe how they are used, and pictures of things to talk about. Been a while so cant remember fully but not a scary as I thought!!
