Got digital load of xxxxxxxxx assuming it is actually working you need a huge kv takes ages to process and when it goes down no access to those pics stored on it.
Or semi working and you spend time rebooting it so that you can actually just get the name on it after you first back up which takes forever.

Do it, do it, do it!! Honestly - I had chemical x-ray processor since I started nursing until approx 1y6m my boss decoded digital was the way to go - it is sooooo much better. I actually look forward to helping with x-rays now, wheras I used to dread it because of the awwful chemicals!

When we were looking to get the digital one I added up the costs of chemicals, servicing of the processor etc and nurses time to process etc, and we felt it was well worth it. We got ours through Idexx and pay monthly for it.

We put the prices of x-rays up but clients are very impressed when they see the quality and speed of the x-rays we take and price has never been queried by a client so far .....

We upgraded to a fuji cr system in May 2008 and have never looked back. As part of the process for justifying the initial outlay I did a cost comparison and by the time I had factored in nursing time for developing xrays, cleaning the processor, chemicals, chemical disposal and paperwork etc the running expenses for the wet processor came in at circa £2000 p/a. This was based on our caseload of 8-10 cases per week.

At this level it was a no brainer and since having the digital processor we have never been happier.

Hiya! I would just say be careful what you get. We had a loaner one from Jet Xray while our auto one was being serviced and the quality was awful. Really grainy and the vets got very fed up! The good ones look fab as a vet I used to work with had a dental one which was great! :0) Xxx

no stinky chemicals, no processor cleaning, easier storage as can be stored onto DVD (and can save on posting as u can email histories with xrays to referral vets) and if the exposure is a bit over/under u can often adjust the image on the computer to the correct contrast. and linking that last point- if you do get a rubbish xray you know it's likely to be your exposure that's wrong instead of wondering about under/over developing. No need for a dark room or red lights either.

i like the fact that radiographs arent such a big deal any more, u can just do the odd sneaky xray on a stray cos theres no cost involved, the quality of the xrays dont decrease to wards the end of the month as the chemicals become exhausted, and you dont have loads of xrays that werent labled properley at the time to identify. plus the storing of them is much easier

digital xray does not necesserily mean less time under ga as you can still get positioning errors etc.

we use digital but we do get through 6+ different cases through each day!

I would add up how much you are spending on chemicals and your time changing the chemicals and you will notice how this adds up, plus there is the health and safety issue of repeatedly changing chemicals....none of that with digital.

Me too!! I'm the only one who does it as its my job-it makes me stink! even double gloved and aproned!-a digital x-ray would be wonderful!

I would justify buying digital purely on the upkeep on the automatic processor!! I hate the job and its usually only me that does it!!!! I would be in digital heaven if we had one - wouldn't even care if we never got another radiography case!!!!

Tiggys have digital, its AWESOME!!! Easily justified to spend out on it, as have numerous x-rays with wildlife cases.

We use CR (computed radiography) in practice. from Celtic SMR.
