I just wish i could work out what was stressing her out so much, that way maybe we could do something about it.

Have got a urine sample so will take that in tomorrow to work.

I wasnt sure whether to try the spray or plug in feliway? If the spray only lasts 6 hours i guess we'd have to spray the area every 6 hours? and maybe she would just spray somewhere else?

Just a quick reply as I'm about to log off.

But stressful stimuli or situations are not always apparent to us but may be hugely stressful for your kitties.

Firstly, I'd advise a urine sample to rule out any underlying medical conditions.

Secondly, I'd advise a Feliway diffuser and see if the situation settles down at all. Or try Zylkene. You could try spraying Feliway directly onto the areas that have been urinated/sprayed on.

Thirdly, thorougly clean the areas using biological washing powder and water.

The problem with keeping them confined is that the one thats doing the spraying learnt years ago how to open all the doors!!! They used to be shut in the kitchen at night but they always got out and let themselves in to the bedrooms!! So we gave up after a while!

Maybe i could put a diffuser in the 2 rooms shes spraying the most in ie the kitchen and living room and see if she stops spraying in those then if she does we'll know its working and can get diffusers for the rest of the house?

The only thing that concerns me is that if you need to put a feliway diffuser in each room, thats going to work out very expensive.

Can you confine the cats to one or two rooms while you try to ascertain what the problem is? At least that way, you wouldnt need to put a diffuser in every room.

No other cats have been in through the cat flap that we know about, mum only works part time so shes home alot and i would think she would have seen if one had been in.

There are other cats in the neighbour hood but no new ones, the cats that are about have been about for years and im pretty sure they are all neutered.

No new carpets or new flooring

As far as i can think nothing has changed, i will get a urine sample to rule that out and ill tell them to keep their eyes out for new cats, not that there is much they can do if there are!! But least then there would be a reason and ill get some feliway diffusers and see if that helps.

just a thought but you havnt had any visitors through the catflap have you? ie is your pud trying to cover the smell of an intruder? or is there a possibility you may have an entire tom hanging around just outside causing the upset?

new carpets?

newly laid laminate floor?

any new neighbours with new pets in the area?

Unfortunately, I'm no expert on cat behaviour either, as well as echoing what Steph said, is the any possibility of getting a urine sample to rule out any medical cause, eg urinary tract infection?

OMG!! I really feel for you!!

could anything have changed in the household that could indicate stress?

Or maybe senility?? I'm really not sure..

If your going to use feliway plug in, you'll need one for every room.. a spray will only last up to 6hrs .. maybe plug-in is a better option?? an expensive one though!
