She came to me as a rescue roughly 9 years ago and was a few years old then.
I was slightly concerned about her lastnight as I thought she was more quiet than usual and sat in the one place

Re: Bye Bye Tabitha

[quote user="Nick 'Batfink' Shackleton DipAVN(Surgical) VN"]

As I said, I think sometimes it is easier to lose them in their sleep - heartbreaking as it is!

He was actually called Tom when I got him!! I rescued him from the local dog pound and the warden told me he had been there 'quite a while' longer than he should have, so obviously they thought/hoped he would get a good home!!

Strange though - I have a real soft spot for our older patients - especially Labradors! I reckon Tom is the reason behind that!

Re: Bye Bye Tabitha

[quote user="Vicky SVN"]

Tom is a fab name for a labrador

As I said, I think sometimes it is easier to lose them in their sleep - heartbreaking as it is! I was a wreck for months after loosing pooch - She was a BC whom I had had since a pup, and had been with me through my teenage years and early 20's. I know for certain I would have been much much more of a wreck, and for much longer, if I had had to make that decision..

I really feel for clients at pts - I'm often in tears with them, no matter how indicated the pts is clinically

Re: Bye Bye Tabitha

[quote user="Saskia Paula Quinn"]

Steph, your hug was well received! Oh, the boys are ok now - there were a few tears this morning, but you know what they are like at that age - other things (like Wii) appear more important after a time!

Now Matthew wants another one! I dont think I will for a long time, and thats if I ever get another one. It never gets any easier - no matter how many times we lose a pet, eh?

I lost my beloved pooch in her sleep a couple of years ago - I still get teary and upset about it, but the way I see it is that she was an old lady collie dog, and she was stealing biscuits off the table the day before! She deserved the peaceful end she got, and I am forever greatful that I didn't have to make that decision.... I loved her so much, I was always scared I would be selfish when the time came...
