Phillip (my 7 year old) said this morning 'mummy, if Tabitha was still here, the wires of my Wii would have been all ate'!!!

I hadnt picked the game or wires from the tv before going to bed as I knew no-one would be eating them during the night!

Sorry to hear your news. Its horrid. When I lost my bun a couple of months ago I found myself looking for her, and going to the fridge to get her veggies. She was a fantastic age and sure she had a fantastic life not that its makes it any easier. Its something I never get used to not matter how many I have lost, or what they are, they are all precious members of our family. Sorry.

She was diabetic and boarded with us whenever her people went on hols. Her people were very commited to her, and kept her stable for many years.

Unfortunatley, when she was boarding with us she became very ill (not sure of the whats and whys as I was a newbie nurse at the time)

Snap! I try my hardest to hold back the tears but don't always manage. The clients don't seem to mind, but i don't feel i have a right to be upset when it's not my animal! Like you i know that pts is 100% the right thing to do at times, but am upset for the owner, knowing how they must be feeling.

Thats the way I want my Rosie to go at home, in her favourite place (the sofa) with me holding her paw and cuddling her and her eating a piece of chocolate. (She has a very sweet tooth!)

I know exactly what you mean - especially when the client has been agonising about it

I helped with one of the saddest PTS's ever when I had hardly any experience - It was a dobi, who had acute renal failure - she was 'ok' ish at the time of pts, but would have gone downhill quickly and spectacularly..... the owbers decided to pts while she was still 'ok' to let her go with dignity, and as the dog they remembered...

It was a home pts, and the entire family were present. She barked at us when we knoked on the door, and was giving her family kisses while we were there..

He was actually called Tom when I got him!! I rescued him from the local dog pound and the warden told me he had been there 'quite a while' longer than he should have, so obviously they thought/hoped he would get a good home!!

Strange though - I have a real soft spot for our older patients - especially Labradors! I reckon Tom is the reason behind that!

Now Matthew wants another one! I dont think I will for a long time, and thats if I ever get another one. It never gets any easier - no matter how many times we lose a pet, eh?

yeah, I always worry about being selfish in times like that. Its sometimes so hard to know what to do for the best.

I also lost my first ever dog I was old enough and responsible enough to properly own, in his sleep 10 years ago, it was a real shock as he was very well beforehand. I even had to go to mum's (200 yards away) that night in the car to pick him up for bed! He prefered the car, as he had arthritis and was quite stiff - however, he was able to make his way down to mums ok - somehow, it became a problem coming home again! His name was Tom and he was a beautiful rescue labrador

Aww - It 's so hard when they seem OK and then suddenly go

I lost my beloved pooch in her sleep a couple of years ago - I still get teary and upset about it, but the way I see it is that she was an old lady collie dog, and she was stealing biscuits off the table the day before! She deserved the peaceful end she got, and I am forever greatful that I didn't have to make that decision.... I loved her so much, I was always scared I would be selfish when the time came...
