I have been in much the same predicament but this was new graduate who had a very nasty streak, no bed side manner with the animals, being rough when handling them etc etc. It seemed they had the I'm the vet and what i say goes attitude, but he was put into place by the boss saying that his VNs know their job and maybe he should take some advise from them and learn how to handle and treat the animals. Im pleased you have had a meeting. Hang in there things will get better.

I've had an initial meeting with my boss to air my problems, so I guess I'll just have to hang in there and see what next week brings. Thanks for advice all

My advice ( as a vet and as a boss) would be to ask for a meeting to be scheduled with the boss and the vet concerned. If you are a valued member of staff they will find the time. If you would be flustered/nervous ask if you can take a colleague. Write down all your concerns so that you can detail them objectively to your boss. Go through all your concerns with them and ask that they give them due consideration. They may not be able to change systems overnight, but make it clear what you would prefer to happen in the practice, or how you would be like to be treated differently. Ask for a follow-up meeting to be scheduled in a few weeks and then allow the boss and the vet to tackle your problems. If they aren't prepared to change then get them to explain why they use the systems/attitudes that they do. If they aren't prepared to do any of the above, or if your views differ wildly and compromise isn't possible, then job hunting might be in order. Good luck.
