Hope you are all ok!
I am here to pick your vet nurse brains!
I am considering putting my 2 cats back onto wet food. But I want a decent one that will protect them against FLUTD.

Re: Cat Food

We use Bozita, you can get it at Zooplus or from R& L Pet products. If you buy a case it's cheaper from R&L and you get more selection if you ring them. It works out much cheaper because the food is high protein and they need less of it daily than you would with your typical commercial food.

Re: Cat Food

Right, well the dry food we get at cost price from the practice where I used to work is £13 for 3kg (or so Dave says, but i'm sure it is £17). Even so, a 3kg bag lasts the 2 of them a month. So it works out at 46p a day to feed both of them or 60p a day.

Felix weighs 6ish kg, need to weigh him actually, and fat cat Cleo is just over 4kg and on a permanent diet! I'll start off giving Flick 4 pouches a day, and Cleo 3 and see how they get on.

I've just bought 3 packs of 12 pouches of Asda Tiger Cat food for £6.51, and that will last them 5 days which works out at £1.30 a day to feed them! Oops.

I only went to our local Asda and they didn't have the 40 pack of pouches in.

So my next plan is to try Leigh Asda or Costco to see what they've got on offer.

Re: Cat Food

My two have dry food down ad lib (if I can keep the pooch away from it!) and share a pouch when I call them in at night. I tend to go for supermarkets own brand pouches, as my cats aint fussy about their gushy food! They both drink plenty of water (NF & NM) from a huge dog bowl, but NF prefers the annoying dripping tap in the bathroom!

Not had any probs thus far

Re: Cat Food

Lol, might pop to Lidl tomorrow and investigate their cat food!

asda Tiger pouches = 40 pouches for about 8quid (less when its on offer) mixture of jelly and gravy - Morris gives it a thumbs up! works out cheaper than the others by quite a bit even when they are on offer.

whiskas simply has not gone down very well with mine - even the outdoor stray.
Am with sal! My Nimah used only like the tesco own brand and the adsa own brand! As i have two cats tho have switched to tins as works out cheaper a tin a day between 2!

At the moment they loveeee lidils own brand! 6 tins for £2.50 so thats like 41p a day to feed two cats and obv they get their biscuits!! Also if you are doing tins, poundland do felix 2 for £1, i get them that aswell to keep it varied for them!!

Whiskas in my house is a no go area they jst sniff and walk away altho niamh did like their saucy range i think just because it had gravy lol!!

haha yeah they have awesome taste!! Cheap and cheerful!!

I act. highly recomend lidils own brand to people, as cheap as it sounds it act looks and smell better thn whiskas!! They do a lamb and mint flavour which causes my two girls to go mental and get all excited!! Lidil pouches also have some intriguing flavours which the girls seem to enjoy!! If there happy then who am i to complain haha!!

I also put down a bowl of cat milk every day (as well as constant water) to try and encourage them to drink more and the milk does seem to help.

Also mine won't drink water if it's too cold, so I have to put bowls in the warmer rooms!

Re: Cat Food
Thanks!

Felix (my panther) is an outdoorsy type, i.e out more than in and he likes to go on jaunts for days at a time! I frequently spot him streets away and he runs off when I call him! How rude!

My 2 have a huge water bowl - well it's a dog bowl - cos Felix likes to stick his paw in it and they always drink out of the dogs bowls anyway.

I'm just going to stick them on any old wet food then, as they both go mad for wet food!

Wish I'd read this thread months ago - doh!

Re: Cat Food

Any wet food will help reduce the risks of FLUTD (saying that my guys are an a 100% dry diet and only had one bout of cystitis with my male and that was stress related)

NO food will protect 100% against FLUTD as there are many factors involved in this disease.

if your cat is stressy then have feliway plugged in all the time,

use huge dog bowls or water fountains to encourage drinking

use wet food if you are worried about it

these things will help reduce the risk of it occuring.

like i said my guys are on proplan all the time have a huge water bowl, my male was overweight for a time as well but have since slimmed him down, and not had probs.
