I am a Qualified Vet Nurse (2 years). I started locum work at a University hospital, having previously worked at a referral practice). It started out well but after a month or so I was feeling stressed out by the running of the place and

Re: Advice please

sorry to hear about your problems. I think that every one thinks that their jobs should be as 'advertised' by the RVC and BVNA, but in reality all we do in most practices is clean, monitor anaesthetics, clip nails and push the button on the x-ray machine!. I'd try another practice. With regards to the allergies, I have been qualified for 9 years and have been allergis to dust, dust mites and all animals for 25! (since the birth of my daughter!). oddly enough they are getting better, except for rabbits and chinchillas! and if any come in, i pop a pill!

Its not all bad and somewhere out there is a practice for you.

And just keep taking the tablets!!!!

GOOD LUCK

Re: Advice please

Sorry to hear about all your problems. How was your general health at your previous work? It could be stress-related as you think, and if it is, I would not like to go back to such a busy stressful place.

Also, an anti histamine a day wont keep the doctor away! lol. I know how it feels wondering if its really worthwhile keeping up with nursing, or to change career direction totally. So my advice would be if you really want to carry on nursing, but are suffering from allergies, change speciality, go into something like exotics or similar. (I know I know, easier said than done! but worth a thought?)

And then there is the dreaded thought of a career change into practice management or similar.

Whatever you decide, I hope you become well again and make a choice that you will not regret later. Keep us informed!
