I just needed to let off steam about the crazy day we have had at work today!
We were meant to be stock checking all day, but started off 2 nurses down as someone was poorly, and someone on a lieu day. Morning surgery was extremely busy,

Re: Crazy Day!!
I was there till 10.30pm- arg! N went in at 9.30am today..got back at 2pm (for everyone else was only meant to be there an hour n a half on a bank holiday!) i sent Chelle home about 8pm as she needed to drive home to essex which takes about 4 hours!!

I feel completely wiped out!! We exlaped Jess n she had a lump of rubber just passed her duodenum! she is recovering well though and eating a bit of i/d (no vomiting so far...), pendulous lump dog died a few hours post op, sent boss's lumpectomy home the same evening, then I had the cleaning up to do!! Just tidied n put things in soak really!

we sent ibruprofen dog dog home this morning, liver failure dog was PTS this morning as well as being very pourly the fox (one of our lovely vets) felt horrible mass in abdomen, and we have admitted a heart failure pooch. I then had op and prep room to clean from night before, the fox had managed to cause chaos in the consult room so had that to tidy, then the boarding cattery to sort out including a diabetic cat!!

Did Tango turn up? (One of our diabetic patients - and a lovely pooch!!!) I saw her in Pavilion Gardens and she looked like she was going hypo! Her mum was bundling her off to see you guys last I saw - she had to carry her!

Due to my circumstances, I dont think I could even afford to work if I had to pay a babysitter!

Yes, I have been a single mum for almost 7 months now. Life can be very tough at times, especially when I am trying to keep 2 boisterous boys entertained 24/7!

It difficult at the moment as I have been off work today and yesterday with a bad flu and it would be so helpful to have someone around even just to feed the animals and do a bit o tidying up, that sort of thing, but I am feeling slightly better this evening, so hope to be back on form tomorrow! I am off now until Tuesday for the Easter break so it will definitely give me some time to relax (hopefully) and recharge the old batteries!
Awww - I feel your pain!

I struggle with just one boy, one dog and 2 cats! I have been on my own since lil man was born - dad did a disapearring act and changed all his contact numbers etc - though I think lil man is MUCH better off without that sort of man for a role model!!

The house is in a permanant state of disorder, and 'quality time' has to be snatched at the weekends! After a working day, we are both too knackered to do much apart from sleep (lil man) and veg out (me)

I wouldnt wish singlemotherhood on anyone if they have a good choice. From your past theads - you had no choice, and I didn't either.

It is tough bloody going, and until I experienced it I had no idea! I used to get annoyed at the mum nurses running off home, or calling in coz their baba was ill! Not any more! I think I would forcibly remove them from the premises to see to their babas now!

yeah, boys at home, mum looks after them so I dont need to worry! A few years ago though, one of my boys had a bad fall and had to go to A & E - I was working night shift for vets now, had to wait until someone was able to come and cover me, then rush the 40 miles home, well to the hospital, it was awful, thats a real downfall when you work so far away.

Its nice your nursery is so close to work, that would take a lot of the pressure off on those busy days!
Yes, it really does take a lot of the pressure off! I foresee a dilemma when I qualify, as prior to Lil Man, I mostly worked in referral practice, and would love to go back to that and get my DipAVN..... However, when I had lil man, I moved back home, which is very rural, and most referral practices are at least 20miles away!

I love where I work now - I'm not used to mixed practice, but getting there, and love the banter withe the farmers. And we have such a fab team at work! I adore my colleagues - some of them can be downright frustrating at times (Not you Sue, but you will know who I mean lol), but they are all lovely, and their heart is in the right place!

I just prefer small animal referral work - it was how I was trained initially!

Anyway - I am blathering on about myself - I'm as bad as a man!

Paula, I think its fab that your mum has your boys - that must be such a relief! And so good that your family are supporting you! I gather you are a single mum, just like me!

I think if my family were caring for lil man I would be willing to commute further afield, but at the moment I meed to be close by him! I need to know I can be there in minutes if I need to!

That was definitely a crazy day!!

I find things like this happen when you have something planned for the day - eg stocktake, staff meetings etc!

That would have been sooooo stressful having to leave to collect your child then come back! I have had to do that at times when I worked in my previous practice, not anymore though as I work 40 miles from home, but I do get stressed when I know I am going to be very late home and mum needs to go out so I need to pick the boys up!

I hope your little dog is ok
OMG you work 40 miles from home? Are the boys 40 miles away from you while you are working? I would find that super stressful alone! But then I am a worrier

Thankfully, nursery is 2 mins from work, so it wasn't too bad! And pooch had only eaten a couple of mouthfuls of vomit (that sentance is sooo wrong - eaten vomit!!!), but I didn't want to risk it so got the vets OK for the apomorph jab!

As we are a small practice, and nursery is close by, Lil' Man is used to coming back with me when it is crazy! It doesn't happen often - perhaps once a month, but he knows all my colleagues, and will happily sit with the receptionist and do 'post office stamping' (with our address stamp!) for half an hour when necc!

Pooch is now looking very sorry for herself, but is completely fine! lol

Re: Crazy Day!!

That was definitely a crazy day!!
