God knows how we would sort it use them a lot on calls with no patient in to see if they need to come in.

I think my old places fee was about £25 per call. Clients didn't mind paying this even if it was just for advice, though generally the pet was seen. Probably one of the only services we didn't have a problem with clients paying their bill!

What about if you don't actually see the pet in? As in the client just phones you up, do you just send them a bill afterwards?

I guess I'm just worried that we are going to be owed loads of money thats all. Boss is thinking of charging £58 per call. We (the rest of the staff) think it's a bit steep, just wondered what everyone else thought?

If we have clients that dont need to be seen, they often pay over the phone there and then. From what i can remember i think we charge £25, but will check tomorrow. If the price is too high you run the risk of the client not agreeing and possibly the animal going untreated. We probably only have to ring VPIS half dozen times a year so perhaps this is why we dont have problems with bills!

We charge 12 plus vat but will have to increase this when the new charging structure comes into force. We usually only call them if it is serious enough for the animal to be seen. We always tell the client we think it would be advisable to phone them and then they give us the go-ahead I think if they are concerned enough to phone they are happy for you to consult a service with more experience then we have with the weird and wonderful things their animal has been in!

We have not yet had a letter detailing the new charging structure - when I saw the suggestion on fees a while a go I think it kept an annual fee but also a charge per enquiry so it is totally understandable a charge will have to be made to the client if this is introduced.

We charge £40 to call them, we always tell the clients before hand that there is a cost and when u call the vpis they log the clients name and animals name when the bill comes through from them i think they state the calls made on them so the boss checks that they have been booked, most clients are happy to pay the fee

We charge per call... I think it's about £24 or so. Most suspected poisonings come in to the practice anyway, there are only a few cases where we would call VPIS without also seeing the animal. In those cases it's explained to the client that we need to get specialist advice from the VPIS and that there is a charge for that service. Don't think (off the top of my head) we've had any problems relating to it

we are to start charging but will be under 20quid to the client- consults and tx would be on top obviously

Indeed! This is my concern, he's basically saying that if they don't pay for the service then we shouldn't call the VPIS and get info, so I guess we would be just giving symptomatic tx in that case but I'm not sure on the legalities of the subject??!?!?

We don't charge per call. I would imagine that it would be quite hard to enforce payments per call.
