Always been on top of the game and had a broad knowledge but......then I had a baby! I took a year off and then went back part time. In fact the day I qualified I left on mat leave. A huge anti-climax. I guess I thought this motherhood/family/working mum stuff would be easy. Turns out it aint so! There just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day at the moment and I guess that feeling will be just get worse when I have 2 kids!! I am blessed in so many ways but I just hate that I have to comprimise my work. I bet that sounds just awful doesn't it? I dont mean it to, I love my family and would never give that up for anything.

I think the move to Scotland will be great. I have worked in my current practice for 6 years and I guess a change will be good for the brain.

Re: Feeling a bit stale....

All the best to you Emma with the move and pregnancy.

Renfrew, are you from Scotland?

Lived up there before we moved down here, its been calling me back for years! I cant wait but only ever worked in my wee mixed practice in Cornwall. I am so scared of going to another practice and looking like an eedgit!

Don't worry, everything will come back to you once you get started! Starting anywhere new is always daunting but you'll settle in and within a day or two you won't know what you were so worried about!

I just started back in practice a year ago, and in mixed practice too, which I have never done before!

I am a single mum, and currently doing L3 VN, and it is hard work! Before I started back at work I stocked up on textbooks, and read them cover to cover (not sure how much I retained mind!), and it has been a steep learning curve - not only getting back into practice, but learning how to be a mum at the same time!

I think you need to give yourself time to get back into the swing of things. Read up on the newer drugs - for example hyperT4 cats were all on neomercazole before I left work - now there is felimazole & vidalta! Also the waste disposal rules changed - syringes could no longer go into clinical waste! Little things, but did make it harder to start with!

Good Luck! It is do-able! Just about!

Re: Feeling a bit stale....

Don't be so hard on yourself is my advice. Sit down with the people you work with and say you are feeling rusty and want to know the most important things they think you should brush up on and try and do that while you are at work.

I think all of us are good at being super critical of oursleves and its no good.

If you feel rusty in an area and its not mad busy then shadow someone doing whatever it is, Or ask them to talk you through it again just to re-afirm that what you have in your head is right and up to date.

I work at the PDSA and its mental crazy busy but every week there's at least an hour where you can grab some time to learn a little, so its def possible. When you have kids as young as yours work is work and home is home. You can't be super woman and study at night time too.

Hope it all works out for you. Word of warning though, if you opt for PDSA or Vets Now, you might feel a little out of depth cause when its busy you just have to crack on, no hand holding. Its scary but you do learn lots. Just it could go either way, you'll either feel back on top of the game, or it'll scare you silly and make you want to run for the hills. :)

Either way, good luck chick. The fact that you can VN by day and Mum by night you are already a very capable amazing woman.

Re: Feeling a bit stale....

Be careful with RIG is all i will say so many people on here had bad expriences!!
