I have been known to buy baby presents for friends babys. And no they are not things like crocs with big teeth or landmines they are usually money boxes (tasteful ones)

You may also consider a digital photo frame. If you have any baby pictures to make a start and take a load of photos on the day and get some of the good ones on and let the parents add as they get photos. Can always give it a few days post christening it does not have to be given on the day, tell the parents your gift includes the day it's self leave them guessing.

What about a baby memory box... they are brilliant, I cant remember everything they have in them but do remember there being the little clay thing for hand and footprints, plus photo albums etc...they can be quite expensive, I think I paid about 50 odd quid for one for my friends baby a few years back.

I agree John Lewis is a good place to go, they've got quite a few christening bits.

You could get a nice teddy, the sort to display rather than play with?

Try John Lewis, me and my bfriend bought his mates boy a photo album but it had a photo frame on the front. Its something they can keep forever.

When my friends little boy was christened i brought him a pirate ship money box and put a few quid in it. Not useful to him at the time, but a good way to encourage saving in the future!
