&lt;p&gt;I&amp;#39;m speaking to my daddy over the weekend since it&amp;#39;s my birthday so I will ask him when he calls. I would have thought that the older scaling models did more harm than good because of the harshness and lack of technique by most of it&amp;#39;s users...and the rubber polishers only have the correct polishing movement in some angles, the rest of the angles they either don&amp;#39;t reach or put too much pressure with not enough or too much of the paste distribution. This I would have thought would cause uneven ware and scratching.&lt;/p&gt;

It does worry me that the person really knows what they&amp;#39;re doing as you hear about the damage you can cause to pets. I hadn&amp;#39;t had my teeth done like that since I was a child. In the US they use bicarb soda pressurized streams &amp;amp; ultrasonic teeth cleaning and polish and clean this way. The polish they use in the old school buffers makes me feel nauseous and it doesn&amp;#39;t feel clean when you leave!! &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I too thought that you had to polish after a scale due to the micro scratches the scaling produces.&lt;/p&gt;

I am now very careful with brushing, use sensitive toothpaste, electric toothbrush and floss regularly etc etc but having a scale at the dentist B****** hurts! I don&amp;#39;t think they have a clue.... so now I just have a polish, which is what I would do at first, on a dog or cat that just has staining or plaque, and if this works then I would leave it at that.&lt;/p&gt;
