Was taken aback by the rudeness-just as well P.M.T head wasnt on coz he wouldhave gotten both barrels!

What a dick head! I would have done the same, mind you as soon as their speil comes out I hang up anyway, I cant be arsed with phone sales peeps..and the ones who come to the door are much worse.. I usually end up shutting the door on them when they are not listening to my "I am not interested".

I would also be careful. Its a very strange time to call. These people really annoy me. My boyfriend and I dont answer the door unless we expecting someone. We have also stopped answering the phone as it just always someone trying to sell something.

Could try calling the gas supplier to see if this is normal practice?

Shouldnt that sort of thing happen between working hours of 9-5pm, I would think, it definately sounds suspicious to me, very nice of the neighbour to give you the heads up. My mum doesnt answer the door after a certain time anyway, if its not someone she knows the door doesnt get answered, you cant be too careful these days!

Personally Caro, I would be suspicious of someone like that calling at 8pm at night to check a gas meter. Especially if they were calling at the home of an elderly person.

Would it be possible for you to ask around the neighbours to see if your mum's neighbour was/or wasnt the only property they called to? Very nice of the neighbour to phone your mum though.

And yes, if it is bogus - they deserve to be caught and punished.

Our gas man used to come at about half 7!!! I do it all online now though so don't answer the door when i knws its him lol!!

Seems quite late at night to be checking meters, it would freak me out to be honest.
