Which part of Australia do you work in? Also if you dont mind me asking what ur partner does? If you wish to consider a job swab you could email me on tooty_85@hotmail.com and we could discuss details further. I wouldnt be able to go until august 2011 as got commitments in July. Not too sure about mortages/rent etc but we could work that out between us I suppose for 6 months.

UK qualified nurses are considered the best trained in the world, and the diference in training is noticable! Australia nurses only really come into their own so to speak after experience of working in the big hospitals, as the nurse caseload is usually very good, hands on and full of practical nursing to be done! (without working over there i know i wouldnt be as good and confident as i am now)

I dont know many that would consider a job swap for such a short amount of time ie. month, but Australia does have its own BVNA, which is VNCA, and i found them very helpfull when i was over there.

Like i said before you would need to select carefully your job swap nurse if you found one, i woked in one clinic where the nurses where worried about their vomitting rabbit!!??

But on that note im sure you would be able to find someone who will take you on as some 'work expeience' type, they love us UK qualified

Hope this helps!

Re: Job swab in Australia

I'm pretty sure that the BVNA website has a section with links about using your qualification abroad. Not specifically job swaps, but there maybe some help there!?

Re: Job swab in Australia

My understanding is that the Australian Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing is recognised by the RCVS. You could try contacting kookaburravets.com or vetlink and see if they have anyone on their books interested in doing a swap.

Re: Job swab in Australia

what a fantastic idea!!! i love it only problem is i think the australian vet nurse qualification isnt quite recognised in the UK. so you may have to sit exams to be an RVN in the UK? or do extra study to be an RVN? if im incorrect please say so, im just going off what ive looked into and clearly am keen as mustard to get a working visa

Re: Job swab in Australia

Hi Rachel,

I'm looking to do something similar, but not until May or June next year. I haven't found a web site specifically for vet nurses but the idea is good.

I would be happy to house/job swap with another nurse, but i don't know how it would work with the logistics of rent/ mortgage etc.

The other thing is i am looking to go to the UK for at least six months and i also have a partner to think about also!

If any other nurses read this and have any ideas or info, can they please let me know?

Thanks
