Hey there,

I just started the Animal Care College's "Veterinary Practice Receptionist Certificate" and it's fantastic!!!!

Completed via Distance Learing. You can learn at your own pace. Sending in the completed units whenever you get them done. There are 5 units total. Also you can pay monthly and start at anytime. They give you a tutor who you can contact throughout the course. The textbooks on available on Amazon and I found a few of them used for under a pound.

The Animal Care College do one of the distance learning receptionist courses, seems like quite an indepth one to do. CAW also tend to do reception one-day courses so would be worth checking with them to see what they're doing this year

Our old receptionist did a distance learning receptionists course. Seemed like quite a good course, she was using our nursing text books to find out info so must have taught her a fair bit. But i don't know what the course is so prob not much use to you! Think it was prob found in the back of a nursing mag though so worth a look in places like VN Times/VNJ?

I have been selected within work to give a brief talk to our receptionists in 2 weeks time about preventative services - vaccinations, worming, flea treatments and neutering. I am expected to inform them why we do it, how often we do it, what age etc etc.

I have to say I am quite looking forward to it!!

Maybe even having a meeting/chat with your receptionist and informing her of the practice policies on certain things like preventatives? Examples of emergencies, basic terminology etc etc. That is certainly something that we, as nurses, could educate our receptionists on. Of course, if you have this all in writing, that would be an added bonus as it is something she/he can refer to when needed.

there was one running Peterborough way a few years ago - it was advertised in the Vet Times. will see if I can conatct receptionist and see if she can remember?

also all of the receptionists where i was working at the time did the veterinary terminology course (which i think was through Telford - if that helps at all)
