I think that comment was actually directed at me, not you, Loopylou. I sometimes use the phrase "can I be a real bitch?" to bring a lighter tone to something when I know it could be an emotive comment. Its obviously not what comes across!!

I still think it is a fair comment to make, as speying your cat should be a priority and will not break the bank, but I accept this is maybe not what you would like to hear when you are frustrated with your cat's behaviour and need some advice, so I am sorry I upset you.

citronella is toxic isn't it? and no matter what you do to divert her from doing it, until she's spayed it won't matter she will just move on to another place. Better you know where she's doing it now and put a puppy pad or something down in the mean time until she can be spayed.

Aw thanks hun! Also Lou check with your insurer about how much they will cover if she's not spayed. They may not cover some things because of it. Just in case so you know what to expect. It might actually save you money to not insure her until after she's spayed and just keep a 'kitty' for her or piggy bank.

Re: Help - kitten problem!!
I think of u and claire as the cat people on here
Speak to the CPL and see if they can help, but if not please be wise and sort out a safe home with some funds for her. I know that will be hard but there are lots of families out there looking for kittens at the moment! :) May I also suggest you offer some Zylkene to her for a couple weeks until you can get her spay money together.
WE have two boxes for them and there always clean!
Current recommendations are one tray per cat plus one extra, and as you have three cats I'd suggest four trays in total.

Is the tray in a secluded, private area? The cat must be able to feel secure in the tray as this is when they are most vulnerable. The tray also must be attractive enough to return to time and time again. So ensure it is cleaned regularly and that you are using a litter that she likes. Maybe use different litter in one tray and see if she uses or avoids the new litter?

I'd clean the area using biological washing powder, surgical spirit or UrineOff as Steph suggested. Leave to dry completely before allowing her back to the area.

You could also try spraying the area with Feliway and/or using a Feliway diffuser.
I hate shouting at her and giving her into trouble! Infact i dnt as i cnt c wht gd tht will do! i just don't get why shes doing it
Shouting at her will make the problem worse not better.
we have had her since 6 weeks and shes been great!
There will be something that has triggered this behaviour and I echo what StephB has said re entire cats.

The following website has been written by my boss and you may find it useful

http://www.purrfectcatbehavior.com/inappropriate_urination.html

In the un-neutered cat, the urine not only signals the cat's presence but its status. Females in season have high levels of oestrogen in their urine to attract toms and they leave a highly pungent spray which is a combination of urine and secretions from anal glands under the tail. Spraying indoors is a sign that the cat is feeling stressed and needs to make itself feel more secure.

2. Avoidance.

Avoidance behaviour refers to those cats that are unhappy about the location or type of their current litter facilities. Some cats feel self conscious about using the litter tray in front of people or other animals, especially if the tray is positioned in a prominent area. Cats dislike using their litter trays in areas that are associated with eating and may seek alternative locations. The actual litter type and smell may put some cats off using the tray especially if the litter is dirty, clumping, perfumed or insufficient in quantity.

3. Fear / Anxiety

A nervous cat or one that is kept entirely indoors may be threatened by changes to his environment like redecorating, moving furniture or even new people entering the house. Smells brought in on feet may be enough to trigger a feeling of insecurity and a need to spray. Redecorating effectively removes all the cat's subtle markings which have been carefully placed by rubbing and scratching, with the strong odour of new carpets, paint or furniture. Your cat has lost his ‘furnishing’ hence feels insecure and feels he needs to replace it. Sometimes if strangers are in a house a cat will urinate inappropriately rather than pass through a room with the stranger in to access the litter tray or outdoors.
Some cats feel intensely threatened by the presence of strangers and subsequently ‘mark' an area with a strong, familiar and reassuring scent eg your bed!

3.Multi-cat territorial situations.

Adding new cats to an established household can threaten resident cats, or upset the balance in a multi-cat household and induce spraying. Status challenge within a group can occur as the younger members reach social maturity between the ages of 18 months and four years thus upsetting the group dynamics. Spraying under these circumstances is almost always accompanied by a degree of passive or active aggression and intimidating behaviour that you the owner may not be aware of. There is generally a conflict over resources ie litter trays, feeding stations, rest areas or toys.

THE SOLUTION

NEVER PUNISH YOUR CAT

Always seek veterinary advice in cases of inappropriate urination in a cat that has normally been using a tray and/or going outside or if your cat is not passing normal solid faeces.

You really need to get her spayed ASAP and if you can't do that then you need to re-home her to a home that can afford her. Her not being spayed is obviously stressing her out and this is why she is defecating in your home. {Please don't take this the wrong way but It's completely normal entire behaviour with lack of physical stimulation but company of other cats (male/female/neuter). Please get her sorted, even putting the food there isn't going to stop the problem she will just move on to somewhere new and your whole home will be covered in it, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if she's already sprayed elsewhere and you've not found it yet.

Re: Help - kitten problem!!

Hi.....to be honest at her age and if she is not spayed and this has become more frequent i think that may be her problem. She may be marking this area in a lookout for a boyfriend!Have you noticed her coming in and out of season at all?

I know she's an indoor cat, but I think you can avoid some health complications down the line with a spey- were you planing to have her speyed at some point, or did you want to breed her?

I know with an indoor cat there's less urgency, but she could always get out... I got a cat who was two and had always been kept indoors, I always planned on her going outside with time and taking it slowly- but before I even got the chance to do it properly, whenever she got a breeze from a window, the door opening or anything, she'd be trying to get out like a shot, so these things do happen!
