Have you any more cv tips? Should we include references? Is so, what? Letters or names of referees?

That's a good question. What stands out about a person's experience (or lack of it, trying to get a placement)? What can a person do to look good?

To us one of the main things is a well written CV with a handwritten covering letter. We have too many letters and CVs covered in typo's, spelling mistakes, bad grammar etc and very off putting. Even worse saying things are enclosed and they aren't, or not paying postage so we have to collect from post office!! Good neat work is an overall good impression. I would say after that work experience is good - you want to know someone will stick with it, not drop out as they find they dont like the job or blood!

My understanding is that the first year will be classed as full time but that only equates to 3 days per week, but you need work experince placement to do on 2 other days per week to make up the time you will need to spend in practice during the first year The second year will be practice based mainly.

There is going to be a high demand for placements - we are already inundated with letters so I would say that is your main thing - to find a placement - I fear there will be many more college places than work placements!

Thanks guys, i've been told by Hadlow that they are having another meeting on the 19th March so they will be in contact in April at the latest...........one must now be patient.!! (not one of my strong points.!)

There isn't really a great deal of information available at the moment as to how the new scheme will pan out. Have a read through the RCVS pages on the training scheme http://www.rcvs.org.uk/Templates/InternalVNAward.asp?NodeID=5215170&int1stParentNodeID=96117 as they will update it on there once everything is finalised.

Hello there Katherine,

Thank you so much for your speedy response.

Im based in Dhekelia, my husband is with 2PWRR head quarters.

I have rescued two dogs since being out here (2 years just gone) and have been really lucky in that the Vets we use in Ariadippou have allowed me to gain some experience with them which has been awesome, i've learnt so much in the 3 months i've been going (about 10 hours a week).

I don't know if your've read some of the threads on here but it's made me really conerned about the way the profession is perceived. Nothing i read can make me change my mind about becomming a Vet Nurse i've supported my husband for so long he is more than happy for me to follow my dream now and support me. I guess i just want to be as prepared as i can.

Are you aware of the changes that are currently going through with training?
