I did lambing when on my diploma at sparsholt college between 2004 - 2006. Was a great experience, seeing as noone else in my group seemed to wanna get their hand and arm inside a ewe. lol. I was well up for it, donned a glove and got stuck in and helped deliver a lamb... I'll tell you waht though, bloody brill on a freezing morning, my left hand was freezing but my right hand was toasty after being in a ewe, no wonder that lamb didnt wanna come out.

I thought those sheep from the Norherly most Shetland Island (shown tonight on Lambing live) were interesting and quite a nice idea they get a good long life before being slaughtered (4 years I think they said) and they were so free it was funny watching the farmers trying to round them up!

lol having said that I did meet one very clever sheep who was a hand rear and lived on a livery yard as a pet. She used to follow you into the feed store and kick you in the back of the legs and then barge straight in!

I was a veggy for nearly 4 years but then decided that I liked meat to much and me not eating meat wasn't going to stop everyone else from doing it. I try to buy free range and would one day love to raise my own animals for meat.

Re: Lambing
Yeah I'm not saying animals don't have rights but farm animals are raised to be eaten. Aslong as they are raised in a nice way and have a good life before hand then I don't see the problem.
I don't disagree with you there. But how is it possible to know every single bit of meat put in your mouth is raised in a farm where they are allowed to be animals and free and are not raised in a life of cruelty! Been vegetarian 3 years and vegan for 5 of those months!

Meat will run out one day!

I agree that its not possible to know if animals have been treated well prior to slaughter, which is why i am 95% vege! I only eat meat a) when i know exactly where it has come from, and how it died (my pa is mates with a v good farmer, so when i want meat, i get it from him), and b) when i can afford it!!! it is so expensive! quorn is much cheaper lol!
