What an experience! Eight hours of pure joy. Loved it and learned loads! I helped out with 6 labors and 14 lambs were born. We had some interesting cases. One mum suffered from Twin Lamb (toxaemia). One had two breech lambs and we had a few that had singles so we had to adopt lambs onto them from triplet births. We also milked mums for colostrum to give to the weak lambs who were not able to feed. We tube fed them, gave water pills and bathed bellys in iodine. Even got to learn how to tag them and ring their tails.

All those little lambs were so adorable.

If anyone is interested it was taught at Warwickshire College and they already have the dates up for next years course.

Re: Lambing Live on the BBC

I have been watching it on sky plus. I've found it fascinating, especially with being in mixed practice for the first time!!

Obviously gotta say that the best bits are the bubba lambs, and Lassie the sheepdog!

Was amazed by the 'experiments' they did on the ewe - getting her to choose between happy and stressed sheep / faces!

Re: Lambing Live on the BBC

I love Lambing Live!!!!!
Oh I'm sure their not. I didn't mean it to sound negative. It was nothing I felt was inappropriate or intentionally harmful. It was just different I felt to how you would treat less robust animals.

I have watched it being done and I'm taking a Lambing Skills course to learn more. It sure was something to witness. They were quite rough with the animals but I am used to seeing that on farms. A lot of the little ones they have to be rough with them to get them breathing. I have two friends who go out and help with Lambing every year. I am hoping I can participate annually.

Really looking forward to this program. She has spent a lot of time on the farm and I am interested in hearing about the things she has learned.
