I worked in oz last year. You will need a working holiday visa i think it was about £80. I worked in Adelaide and in Darwin at both practices i was paid $20 and hour which at the time was about £10, but think it might be slightly more now. I was paid well with overtime got x1.5 for saturdays and x2 for sundays.

vetlink have quite a few jobs i still get emails now! i never took work through them though cos i was normally miles away from where it was work was mainly in sydney, melbourne and perth.

if you get a working visa you can always get bar jobs, restaurants etc. Hope you enjoy australia its a beautiful country.

hope this helps?

Other options are things like a skilled migrants visa but think you need an offer of permenant employment for that.

Re: locuming in Oz

do u need a visa to work as a locum?

Re: locuming in Oz

Hi,

I worked as a locum VN in Oz about 3 years ago and got AUS$12-15 an hour, so its prob a bit more than that now. Nurses tend to get paid less over there than UK nurses but there's plenty of work about. You should get in touch with vetlink (www.vetlink.com.au) they were great with me and sorted me out with work all over Oz. www.kookaburravets.com is also pretty good as practices can post on there directly themselves.

To be fair i got paid better for fruit picking work so i did that when i was out in the country and vet nursing when i was in the cities. You'll love it though, i had a great time x
