I'm really keen to do a couple of weeks in one in the summer but don't really know where to start! Do they pay you or do you pay them? Is accomodation usually provided? Do you get much time to yourself

Re: Neutering Clinics Abroad

Im very keen on doing this to. You self funded flights and transport to site, accomodation and meals were provided. we were starting approx 6 - 7am and finishing around 3 - 4pm depending on in you were op- ing or trapping - after ops kits etc had to be prepared for the next day and everything made ready - unless it had been done already. Trappers often did a late stint around 8 - 9pm when they were setting traps for the next days neuters and releasing the late neuters from that day, but had some free time during the day to make up for it. We had 5 -6 people in each team I think

you may end up working with vet staff from other countries if the charity is international which is really interesting as you get to see lots of different methods. We had a pretty relaxed but fast paced team if that makes sense. We were mostly cats (based Rome area - so no shortage of cats around the coloseum) but did do a few bitch spays ( we used a local clinic for them).

we were organised into two teams and each team did a stint at trapping and op-ing so spare time was shared equally between the two teams. We did do a reasonable amount of socialising and sightseeing and because we were quite close knit we always had friends to go with. and more importantly somebody with you who could speak the language if your langauage skills were not quite up to it

meals were provided but our group agreed that we would always go out for our evening meals as this meant the charity did not have to provide the meal and could therefore spend the money they would save on more drugs etc.

Usually you pay for your flights and need to take spending money, but accommodation is generally provided.
