I have a couple of friends who have never had pets, even as kids, and one of them just sees them as messy, fussy and hard work, and the other is slightly scared of most animals. Neither would ever consider having an animal in their home

Re: Do you think people who don't like animals are a bit weird?

My bf loves dogs as he had a cavvy when he was younger and so can't wait to be able to get his own dog.

My best friend doesn't really like animals that much but then she's training to be a human nurse and there is no way I could do that job! Human poo! Yuck!

Re: Do you think people who don't like animals are a bit weird?
My boyfriend has never had a pet, he never grew up with animals in the house and thought I was mental for loving animals so much he just didn't 'get it'
My boyfriend is the same! He always saw them as 'dirty' (that would be thanks to his mother, who will disinfect anything with germs on) and I don't think he quite understood that you can love an animal like you can a person. When we go to friends houses who have dogs or cats, he stands well back and won't interact with them (sort of like I do when a baby is presented to me...). Truth be told it was starting to bug me!

However, we just got a very cute, very noisy and very spoilt 2 year old burmese tortie called Pippa, and its so wonderful to watch him enjoying her! Last night he went and tucked her up in her bed and I also caught him talking to her yesterday which he swore he'd never do! Its so cute :)

Re: Do you think people who don't like animals are a bit weird?

in the same way I dont like children I suppose there are those that dont like animals.
snap. My best friend LOVES children, I quite simply, loathe them
i second that! they are just annoying!! I would like to teach jst don't like children very much lolol!!

I think its hard to explain why you love animals so much but i dnt find it odd when people don't. My bf had never had any pets either as a kid so when i suggested a cat he said yes to shut me up! He wasn't really sure when we first got them and didn'treally understand what to do - like clapping them was odd and playing with them was a waste of his time! lol! He now is converted i'd say maybe not as mad as i am for animals but if something was to happen to them am sure he would be upset lol!

I think its when people ask why you like them that it gets tricky to really explain to someone why you love animals as much lol!

My boyfriend has never had a pet, he never grew up with animals in the house and thought I was mental for loving animals so much he just didn't 'get it'

Funny that he's with me...a vet nurse with a house full of animals lol.
Agreed my boyfriend is totally the same, although we don't live together yet. But I have plans on what dog/cat I would love....he wants a large dog to guard the house...typical....I said no as he works away alot and due to work I'd never be able to cope on my own with something high energy

But I don't think people are weird for not loving animal like we do .... but I suppose I find my own mother weird for working in a primary school....couldn't think of anything worse!

Re: Do you think people who don't like animals are a bit weird?
in the same way I dont like children I suppose there are those that dont like animals.
When you get people who are not that fond of animals working in practice then that is a different matter! - and I can name at least one vet and nurse where this would apply. That I do find strange - cannot understand anybody wanting to spend their working life doing something they dont like through choice?

Re: Do you think people who don't like animals are a bit weird?
I dont, my very best friend(since school, so a long time ago) does not get the companionship and feelings I have for my animals... but she is the only one I will totally confide in and trust implicitely, with my feelings and thoughts. I dont think you have to be an animal lover to "get life"... even if your best friend is one... we are all different, and all have our own individual abilities! I would not change her for the world! If anything she is the one who makes me laugh, when I have lost a beloved pet.

Grub my hand rear won him over slowly and he wasn't truly converted to animals just yet though. It was Piglet my Sphynx that is winning him over. I won't say he's 100% converted just yet but he's getting there!

To start with he wouldn't stroke Grub he just didn't understand the whole 'human/animal relationship' but now he talks to Piglet, cuddles up to her and is VERY affectionate towards her.

I don't think he'll ever be as animal mad as me but he's certainly coming round.

Re: Do you think people who don't like animals are a bit weird?

I dont, my very best friend(since school, so a long time ago) does not get the companionship and feelings I have for my animals... but she is the only one I will totally confide in and trust implicitely, with my feelings and thoughts.
