I've had a renewal quote of £342 for the year and i don't know if I should just cancel it.
I get reduced

Re: Do I renew my dogs insurance?

I cancelled it. Had a chat with my vet about it and he said unless she had a fracture then most things wouldn't cost that much and he knows I wouldn't put her through a fracture repair. She is physically a picture of health but she's going a bit senile and is quite sensitive and I wouldn't want her operated on and hospitalised because I really don't think she would cope. If she did develop a heart condition then of course I would pay for her meds but having already spent over a grand on insurance for her over the last couple of years and never claiming, I would much rather put the money in a bank account. I am all for insurance but I just think with her it's really not worth it anymore.

Re: Do I renew my dogs insurance?

Thats less than £1 per day!!!! At his age, its the exact time to be having insurance, so it can give you peace of mind, if he does become ill. You say you wouldn't put him through much but would if he develops a heart problem - would that be a reason to PTS? Surely life on meds would be more bearable than having to PTS him cos you couldn't afford it!!!

I stupidly cancelled my old dog's insurance when she was 14 & I really wished I hadn't - I had all the intentions of putting £40 a month away but never did! She's now on Previcox, vivitonin, denamarin & destolit and its costing me much more than £30 per month, thats with cost+VAT drugs - but I wouldn't change her for the world!

I got really excited when the Government were suggesting complusory insurance for all dogs but then they backed down.

Re: Do I renew my dogs insurance?

y dont you set up a little savings account and put a set amount aside each month

Re: Do I renew my dogs insurance?

I cancelled my boy's policy last year, he'd had surgery for a lung tumour and i was told he'd probably only last another 6-12 months. 12 months on and there's no sign of his tumour growing back, but he has just been diagnosed with DCM and even with my discount from work its costing £30 a month in meds!
