We had an open day for Blue Cross last year we had

Tombola
Raffle
Treasure hunt
Jumble sale in the back yard
Count the pawprints (we have pawprints on our doors etc.)
Quiz - ectoparasites, instruments - guess what they do etc.
Tea, coffee and cakes
Animal set up in theatre for 'procedure'
Blue Cross staff came to help out and meet/greet people
Colouring in for children
Signs with info on all door rooms explaining what we do
Plus some other bits and bobs

Here are some photos of the day. We raised over £360 for Blue Cross it was a fantastic day, we loved it and are doing it all again this year for Cats Protection

Our clients commented on what a lovely day it was, thankfully the weather was fantastic too. I'm really looking forward to our next open day in May this year for our first birthday!

We had one last month! Was successful

We had:

a quiz for children to answer as they went round
a bitch spay set up in theatre
a dog set up for xray
interesting xrays
a nurse dressed up for barrier nursing
vets and nurses gloved and gowned for theatre
pots of things in lab (worms, teeth, tortoise eggs etc)
posters on walls about everything
stuffed animals in kennels with what will happen to them at the hospital
a big tub of jelly with sweet body parts and plastic eyeballs for children to glove and gown to get an experience of 'operating'...went down well!
3 consult rooms - a rep in each, with freebies
face painting
refreshments
raffle (prizes begged from companies, and some from the boss)
teeth brushing demo, using nurses dog as demo
all money raised went to Canine Partners, so they brought some of their dogs along for people to meet

We had a few open days at one practice i worked at........get sponsorship from reps(this should cover all the set up costs if you are cheeky enough!) and freebees to hand out and see if you can persuade reps to attend and talk to clients, we had competitions (guess the dog breeds, raffle, dog toy lucky dip) all proceeds went to local animal charity who brought in a few animals for rehoming and adoption lady with them who could take details if people were interested, bouncy castle (insurance needed for that!) BBQ outside and cakes for sale. All equipment was labeled and equipment set up and we all wandered around chatting to clients and explaining things. We had a guess the animal on x-ray......clients loved that (tortoise, snake, rabbit, bird, guinea pig etc etc) We made posters on different topics, with lots of information on (if you do this invest in a case to store them in for future use!)

I hope this makes some sense! I'm sure there were more things that we did, i'll let you know as i think of them!

Have done a few over the years, I do:

Colouring/ drawing competitions

Name the teddy

Match the food to the pet

Face painting

Game of operation in the theatre
