Just wondered how many nurses do senior clinics?
What you do in them?
Do you enjoy them?
Cheers

What kinda charge to you put on these consults that include all the bloods etc? Or do they pay a yearly subscribtion and get everything included in that? Thanks

Re: Senior health clinics

Hi,

We run ours as part of a vaccination package for animals over 8yrs, clients are sent reminders for their pets booster and given the option of standard health check + booster or they can opt for 'fit for life' vaccination package.

A 45 min appointment is booked with nurse to complete health questionaire, obtain blood pressure (cats), bloods (Idexx GHP), urine sample - multistix, UPCR, SpG. We go off and run these tests while the Vet then has 15 minutes to come through to do full health exam, discuss any issues raised from questionaire, report all results, and if all ok vaccinate pet!

We are then available to provide support/guidance on general lifestyle/health for the older pet etc. Works well in our practice! Quite a few end up becoming weight watcher patients too!

Every practice runs them differently, so good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Sarah

Re: Senior health clinics

As what Laura said above. Long consults tend to be needed to be able to cover everything and I'd get clients to fill out a questionnaire first so this would be discussed during the consult as well. Would also incorporate a mobility check/pain score chart.

Re: Senior health clinics

Hi, we do what we call a "golden years check", we generally check patient over discuss any issues they may have and then we admit them for about an hour to get blood pressure, blood test, urine test, clip nails if needed. We do all this much cheaper than a cost of just a normal blood test by its self.

I do enjoy them when I get to do the whole thing, but we then put the info in with the vaccination reminders so the vets were doing the checking and all I got to do was the blood test and blood pressure
