Those human nurses and their so called profession obviously have no clue just how much hard work veterinary nurses put in to become qualified. Until recently all you had to do to become a human nurse was a 3 year diploma (similar to the new diploma that is about to be coming out in the vet nurse world). Because they are changing human nursing so that you have to have a degree to do it they think that they are better than everyone else. What they seem to be forgetting is that it took them many long years to get the recognition they have now. They should understand the problems that we are curently facing instead of adding to them.

sorry to rant folks but it really annoys me. what hypocrites!

I felt that as well as not wanting anyone else to be a "nurse", they really have no idea what other nursing professions involve.

"However Royal College of Nursing head of policy development and implementation Howard Catton said a protected title would help the public. He said: “It’s about the public being assured of a level of training, capacity and skill and also that the person could be held to account for what they do.” "

my point was not that human nurses dont think vet nurses should be called vetnurses but that human nurses are not happy that 'nurses' without qualifications are able to use the title. So from that point they are having the same problems we are having.

I think that sucks badly :(

I think as long as proper titles are used for everyone, there is no reason for a problem from Medical nurses.

Ie, surely anyone who just landed on the planet would know that a veterinary nurse, dental nurse, nursery nurse etc, all have different areas of expertise?

Unless someone in one of the above professions introduced themselfs as just 'a nurse' (who would do that? No one, I should think?) how can there be an issue?

To me, a nurse of any kind implies someone who working in a caring profession and holds the requisite qualification to be able to do so, as indicated by the type of nurse they are... (Yes this does fall down in terms of the current push to have the VN title made official and clear on who holds it) I don't think it is, or should be, exclusive to human nursing.
