I sat my exam in Yorkshire, (cant for the life of me remember the name of the place!) But yep, it was novemeber and bloody cold!

Sounds like it was me!

Re: An ANAs job role?

[quote user="Nursie VIP"]

I am a recently qualified ANA, in Portugal (unfortunately I cant go the full VN degree without being UK resident grrr - even though i am a britis citizen grrr again!) But since I am the only nurse (and nursing qualifications dont really happen over here!), I do everything a RVN would do...I work with and MRCVS vet over here and was trained by him. I do alot of studying by mysel, and never get made to feel bad about it.

I do however do A LOT of cleaning. I dont mind so much, but the manager (who is also supposed to hep clean) does do bugger all!! Today was a major busy day and would just love an extra pair of hands...!!

But yep, basically do as much as a full VN would do. (Taking bloods, putting on drips, med admin etc etc)

It is frustrating though when you feel like you are in a world by yourself....!

when i was studying i did get made to feel, by one staff member, that i was sitting around doing nothing. i actually did 99% of my studying alone at home

Re: An ANAs job role?

Im an ANA and i (if im honest) do pretty much everything that the QVNs do.

It does annoy me sometimes that im expected to do some of the things i do especially since A) im not qualified and B) i get paid a heck of alot less than the QVNs but am expected to do the same as them. I actually do alot of our stock control too.

I dont do OOH where i work, our hospital does it for us.

Re: An ANAs job role?

When I was an ANA before I enrolled as a trainee nurse I used to do everything that the qualified nurses did only under the direction of a RVN or VS. I know officially I shouldn't of been doing this but unfortunately alot of practices like to pay less for less qualified staff and still expect them to do the same jobs. I used to do OOH sole charge in the hospital - I really dont think unqualified nurses should be doing this, it was way too much responsibilty at times very stressful.
