would certainly be interesting tho if employees had the same opportunity to see their bosses CRB - in fact very interesting judging by some of the characters I have had the 'pleasure' of working for

the list is for guidance only? if a boss of their own practice wanted to do a CRB check for themselves then fair enough - but why would they need to prove to themselves that they do/ do not have a criminal record? when they already know if they are lilly white or a bit grimy round the edges. Unless somebody else wanted to see it? For a vet that is an employee yes I can see this would be useful

mandatory if they are employees maybe - not if they are the boss of their own practice

Oh bit surprised people have mentioned that vets didn't have them- on the crb website it says it's mandatory!

yes this is becoming more common. We have very little by way of public transport in the village - even tho there are at least 3 school buses going each way every school day that are mostly half empty. When I contacted local transport team and asked if I paid a fare would there be any possibility of using the school service I was told -'sorry but no any adult using a schools service bus must be CRB checked to protect the children and if we let you on (I am CRB checked other people will complain (who arent CRB checked) and it will cause problems'

Thing is some of the little gits on the school bus - it is the adults that need the protection!

I have done voluntary work with special needs young adults in the past and this required an enhanced CRB. Usually it is the employer that bears the cost of the CRB not the employee or sometimes employee pays and then claims it back from employer

hi just before i left my previous practice we had a letter sent from a local college asking if we would be able to undergo crb checks, at our own expense. This is because we took on young people from the local schools doing their work expericence week. Needless to say, some of the staff were offended and the cost would have been very costly i presume as there were 23 plus of us. I dont think they take under 16s on anymore.

I used to ask for a CRB check when I was HN and we had got through the initial interview stage - wasnt popular because it could really hold up a new start waiting for it to come through but after being caught out a couple of times I think it paid off (vets were exempt from this, but all other staff were checked - which I thought was a bit unfair as it was because of vet employee in the past that we did this!). Practice paid for the check to be done and this only happened when we were reasonably certain who we wanted anyway.

we used to ask for a basic CRB - I have just had an enhanced one done for the NHS

I've been nursing 12yrs and a VN for 8years and never had to have a CRB check done. Don't know any vet who has had to have one, maybe to work at one of the universities you may have to have one done

I've just started with the NHS and had to have a CRB for that. I have points on my license, and still got a pass on my CRB. It all depends what your traffic offences were, mine were speeding.
