I am 100% medical nurse at a referral practice, I just got too bored with surgery and it never really interested me that much when I was in normal practice anyway.

I love the attention I can give to my patients and their owners, i still do sedations for imaging when needed and have got better at looking at ultrasounds due to this!!

if you want to pick my brains feel free to ask either on here or on PM

Re: medical and surgical nursing

I was a medical nurse - still monitored anaesthetics and prepped etc , so never left the theatre side 100%. Concentrated on nurses clinics and diagnostics (lab/xray etc) but would be through the back when no clinics, ordering, cleaning, labwork to do. The bulk of my time every day was nurses clinics - which I loved.

Prior to nurse clinics I spent a good amount of time in emergency care which is another area I really enjoy.

I got fed up of surgical nursing after the first 10yrs or so - one of the deciding factors for me was vets that would ask you to do stitch ups just because they couldnt be bothered and thought they were giving you some sort of treat, and another was I prefer to meet my patients when they are conscious, not in pain or scared out of their wits and not wanting to eat me!
