I have a client with a 16yr old cat who's lost its whiskers and they're not sure whether they've been maliciously cut off by a neighbour...

Re: cat's whiskers...

Cat whiskers can fall out for many reasons. illness is usually the main reason if they are all falling out. never heard of them falling out at old age with out it also being a health issue with the cat. They do fall out and regrow in healthy cats, sometimes more than others but if they are all falling out I would think something wasn't right and maybe do some bloods.

Re: cat's whiskers...

My first cat used to walk across the top of the gas cooker when one of the rings was switched on as it was hard to see against the light. One time she did this and singed all her whiskers, which turned into little curly corkscrews and then about 2 days later they all dropped out.

I would have thought if someone had cut this cat's whiskers off, you'd be able to see little stumps as it would be hard to get a cat that's not your own to sit still enough to cut them so short so more likely to have dropped out for whatever reason?
