Very old ward seems lot more relaxed.

Urine sample sorted and off for checking,

Dad in dry bed... 2xs before on other ward full of piss n sh*t (only used incontionance pads the 2nd time it happened onwards)

He was sitting up well padded with pillows.

When l asked about food/feeding the sister said.. "We are feeding him he can not feed himself!" quite shocked l would ask. There was an empty mug thing that had had soup in by the bed and she said he had eaten solid food as well (not a lot but some)

Seems that at last he may be on a good ward. Oh and he has a consultant in respiritary medicine as his consultant. Before he only had whoever did ward rounds and it changed each day.

Re: Hospitals again

[quote user="Claire BearRVN"]

The care home manageress visited on wednesday and told me friday she thinks it is a urinary tract infection as this is often the effect and can be dramatic, fast, scary. She had suggested they do a urine test but they only seemed to half listen. On friday night l pushed for one and was told yes ok will do one. Last night none done and l erupted.

I told them if one was not done in next few hours and it was found he had UTI l would be taking legal advice for the incompetent way it was being handled. The staff sister sulked that he was incontinent .. l blasted her that was what catheters were for l assumed someone could authorise it. She then said well they had special urine collecting pads. I snarled they had had 4 days to sort it again just how incompetent were they.

His chest is like a swamp and they have had him lying down we keep sitting him up. As soon as we do phlem pours out of his mouth. And if he drinks water he has a couple of sips and coughs like a swamp on over drive and his chest bubbles when he breathes do not need a scope to hear it. They have apparently withdrawn anti B as say he doesn't have a chest infection!!! WTF.

He has not from what l can get out of them eaten for 4 days but noone has actually tried to help him eat just said do you want food. This to someone who doesnt know if he is in paris or somewhere foreign as most people do not speak english (from what we have seen whole staff is english). Asks where he is and do we have a room there. Why did we have a car accident, what did brian mean about the big wind in the corridor did it make the car crash.
There was a VERY thick mug of soup with a straw in by the bed. I asked just how he was meant to suck that up, why was it not thinned down. Was told we are not allowed to touch it. I said l assumed they dumped food down to tick boxes that if they gave a damm about the patients they would make sure it was useable/drinkable. Whose head did l have to go and slamm against a wall to get proper patient care in the hell hole.. I was promised that they would ask the kitchen staff to thin it down if they would but no one knew as never been asked before.

Was told best thing to do was go in this am at about 10 and catch the Drs as they ended ward round. And no there was no consultant for my dad it was whoever did rounds that day. Again l was angry as he needs to be under one person. Was told the ward he is on was a 24hr admitting ward... so why has he been there 4 days???

Within an hour and half of getting home had a phone call they were moving him to a proper ward off the admitting ward he was on. I think l upset them am past caring l have had 2 years of appaling care and now l am on the warpath.

Rang up new ward to see if l should go in this morning. Told that there is no ward round on weekends. Had a word about the UTI and keeping my dad sitting up but was hard as the staff nurse was foreign and l am not sure how much she understood but she seemed to so will see, l hope she and other staff are better than the idiots on the other ward. I will go in visiting hours and check he is sitting up and UTI test has been done and about food.

As it stands he will need full time care and not go back home again so l am also trying to cope with that with my mum who is also unable to compute what my dad is at the moment totally confused with being my dad her husband who was elderly but sane.

Re: Hospitals again

thinking of you Caro.
