My bf is thinking about getting a tropical fish tank. Thing is he is extremely lazy and kills most plants just by looking at them.
Have read the thread and not sure what you specifically wanted to know other than to say like any pet, fishies require regular maintenance eg weekly water changes, measurements of tank chemistry, feeding/cleaning etc etc. While a coldwater tank doesn't require the complications of measuring temperature, the same rules apply with maintenance of water chemistry. If he's a lazy boy, I'd steer clear of the fishies....xxx

Re: Fishes!

Kate Claxton is your fish expert on here

Re: Fishes!

I love them so much!
Border Terriers are just lovely! Marine aren't either - it's the initial set-up that needs to be done correctly - & its expensive to start - skimmer/sump/live rock/salt etc.

The important part of fish keeping is cycling the tank to start with (building up the good bacteria to allow the tank to function).

I have a large (55gallon) brackish tank, with 2 very small pufferfish - I do a 30-40% water change weekly.

Unless your bf is prepared to spend the time maintaining a tank - steer clear! Its not difficult, just have to put in the time.

Re: Fishes!

I love love love love love border terriers and I wouldn't pay money for any other pedigree.
I wouldn't feel guilty about paying money for a pedigree border as it's what I really want and I know that most genuine breeders of borders aren't going to charge you a stupid amount of money for one as they aren't out to make a fortune. A friend of mine spent an a small fortune on a designer breed which I would feel guilty about!
