As much as I think everyone should have insurance, I think it's a bit harsh putting it into your contract! What if you took on a really ancient animal where insurance costs a small fortune???

We have the excess paid for us, we don't have to insure our pets but they encourage us to. I have never heard of the premiums being paid by the workplace!

yes have worked as a locum at one place where I was told all staff pets must be insured - they said that it was to help prevent staff finding themselves with a big bill if their animals needed treatment - and to prevent any bad feeling because the practice would have to charge for treating staff pets and they didnt want staff to be disadvantaged from either side

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but why would a practice insist on that and how can they legally do so?

Do any vets contracturally state that employee's animals must be treated there too?

I would have done but my animals are/were all insured so made no odds to me. If they weren't insured I would have kicked up a fuss about it.

Currently I pay all my own premiums and excesses.

as far as im aware they only contribute the £20 not £20 per pet, but they have paid the excess for both of my pets claims

in our practice we get £20 pcm in wages toward insurance premiums, direct claims made and they pay the excess'
