It was suggested that we incorporate a change in the Act to the petition. I am currently studying legislation.... time allowing with my diploma work too.
i got halfway through reading it again, and my rantometer kicked in.....

''Sedecaru, as a fully trained vet, is able to do everything a qualified nurse could''

very true, but vets are not trained to nurse, no more than nurses are trained to vet!

''The next client is a lurcher, adopted from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, who needs blood tests so he can get a pet passport. Sedecaru takes the blood from the lurcher's foreleg, pops it into three little vials, and then centrifuges it to separate the blood cells from the serum''

after ringing defra to check i was told that only lvi vets can take blood for rabies - not nurses or non-lvi vets... is she an lvi vet?

its giving the wrong view of both who and what veterinary nurses are, and what we are able and trained to do! i would expect better from the guardian! grrr!
Really? As far as I was aware an LVI just needs to sign the paperwork, anyone can take the bloods. I did on many occasions. I don't see whay this would have to be done by an LVI unless its to check the identichip. I do not like this article. It does nothing to raise the profile of VNs who have trained to nurse. Seems like the practice just wanted someone they could employ cheaply to do more advanced tasks, and yes, I do wonder what else she is doing behind closed doors.

Re: did anybody else read this?
Vets and nurses are different jobs - a human doc wouldn't try to be a human nurse i reckon (as i read earlier)

Re: did anybody else read this?
To note the vet working as a nurse thing...

We have a girl working on our nursing team who is a vet, trained in Poland and on the RCVS register. She started working for us as she was concerned that her English was not good enough to properly discuss things with the clients and wanted some experience of working with people in this country first. She is described and displayed on the vet/nurse board as a vet but does the work of us nurses - very few ops and no vet consults. She is also paid as a nurse.
See that is fine and good! And good on her for taking a nurses pay and hours etc.. I would high five her if the internet would let me

BUT she is not doing articles in the national press, misleading the public about what veterinary nurses actually do, and are trained to do!

Our training (I am an SVN) is different to vets - vets have told me (for example) that they dont get trained in dressings for example - so how could a vet do the job a nurse does?

Do vets know that cats prefer wide low bowls, and that slow blinking chills them out? (for example)

Kudos if they do btw!
