OK, so we need to change it to;

'As the law stands at the moment, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, proposes that a qualified VN guilty of misconduct will still be allowed to practice

The only way we can change this is by lobbying our MPs for an overhaul of the VSA'

I actuall quite like it Phrin... apart form the last bit, and only because that as of yet has never happened where a registered nurse has been struck of and can still practice.

Petition To Protect The Title Veterinary Nurse

The title veterinary nurse is at present unprotected.

Many people who work in practice call themselves veterinary nurses, when they have no theoretical training in such a position nor have undertaken any examinations.

Qualified Veterinary Nurses, such as you see at this practice, wear with pride the red badge they have earned, after at least 2 years hard study and examination.

Qualified nurses feel that this issue should be addressed so that the general public are no longer confused as to the qualification and hopefully make them more aware of the hard work it is to gain the qualification.

As we are heading for autonomy within the profession we think it is right and fitting that the title should be protected. We are lobbying parliament for a long overdue revision of the Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966), asking not only that the title Veterinary Nurse (VN) be protected, but also that we can form our own professional body, and that all qualified, practicing members of the profession, must be held on a register and be responsible for their actions. Currently the law allows that a Qualified Veterinary Nurse guilty of misconduct and ‘struck off’ is still allowed to practice.

The undersigned, support this revision of veterinary nursing and the Veterinary Surgeons Act (1996)

Great idea for a 'paper' petition - that way you can march on No 10 & present it! I like!

Would it be worth making the opening statement more friendly & understanding to Joe Public - that way we can have the petition on the desk at work

Right guys!!! UPDATE

The petition was closed under rules of the general election and since the election of our new prime minister ALL petitions will remain closed. So we have decided to take matters into our own hands!!!

We have created our own petition that will be used to use as leverage either with the RCVS and/or BVNA and their councils for a change so that the title Veterinary Nurse becomes a protected one so that only people that have undertaken a approved course can use the title.

Due to the election of a new prime minister ALL 10 Downing Street petitions have now been closed.

When at RCVS Day at the beginning of this month had talks with an RCVS representative. Hopefully we will collaborate next year when it is the 50th anniversary of the 1st qualified veterinary nurse!

I may of left full time Veterinary Nursing, but stil passionate about a job I did for 12 long years. Gained lots of experience, skills, knowledge and qualifications, which has stood me in good stead for my transfer to the 'dark side'

Who knows one day I may be back.........

Rig please stop chasing nurses, some of us are getting really peed off. Approaches like this dont make you look keen they make you look desperate!
