i wish there was a way of opening up the publics eye of what us nurses actually do,i think the vets could help promote us a lot more than they do!!

This really winds me up, i always tell clients that the nurse is the better job, and not becoming a vet was the best decision of my life, and that most things happen out the back of the practice, as without their nurse, the vet wouldnt be able to treat their animals.

That usualy keeps people thinking.....

I hate the 'oh i couldnt do your job i'd want to take them all home' as well as the when do u become a vet oh u dont want to be a vet so what will you do instead um this a nurse

A client asked me if I was a trainee vet the other day and I said "oh no I'm just a nurse" (slip of the tongue at the just bit) and the woman had a go at me saying you are not just a nurse!! Made me feel really good about myself! Lovely lady!

I know! People always say to me it must be so nice having a job were you can play and cuddle the animals, um not quite, more like be scratched to shreds by them lol

Half of my relatives understand my qualifications and the time and hard work I spent to achieve them. The other half seriously believe I just cuddle puppies and chase kittens all day. Its so frustrating.

lol My whole family have always thought it funny to make jokes about me and long arm length gloves that vets use for cows, they think its hilarious i am less amused. Plus i find it annoying that most of my family members are telling others about me they say that im a vet much to my bewilderment. When i tell people im training to be a veterinary nurse and not a vet, people often say 'so what does a vet nurse do then?' Are we that unimportant? lol

A couple of weeks ago a client asked my HVN, who had just held her dog for euth, what she will do 'when she gets a proper job'. I was gobsmacked.

Thats the general public for you. As qualified nurses we get looked down on and more that one person has said. 'oh your just a nurse then'!!!!! :-(
