I have visited the place we used in my last practice. They were more than happy to show me and my colleague around. We actually saw a macaw going through the process of an individual cremation plus communal ones. I am sure that the companies used would be happy to show vet staff around. if not then they have something to hide.

we use Antara in Nottingham for our individuals and CPC for routine and waste. Both are good but clients like the closeness of Antara for getting ashes back/being able to visit/getting home collection and delivery where requested. They are a family run business and nice people.

the charity vets I work for use Cambridge which to me is a bit of a carbon footprint being over 100 miles away.

Ou local crematorium is too small though to do group cremations and only does single ones. Pets ashes can be returned or scattered, and you can even go for a service as well, although I never have.

All of my dogs have been cremated there and I have known both previous owners personally.
One lovely added touch is the "guardians" they have when they come to the house (or vets practice) to collect the bodies......they help to guide the dog's spirit on its way.....and the body goes under the platform base they are standing on.

(and for those asking what they are..... they are second generation wolf crosses and so friendly)

We mainly use CPC for clinical waste and mass cremation etc. We use a local company called Sunnyfields for individual cremations and am very happy with the quality and cost of service, CPC offer individual cremations and the owner can attend if they wish, worth contacting the company you use and asking if this is an option if you have a particularly sceptical client.

We use Valley Pet Crem in Devon. They only deal with pets & only individual crems. No farm animals, no clinical waste. (no smelly, horrible collection vans either).

Graham Armstrong's practice. I see one of their retired ophthalmologists regularly at cat shows too (he vets in too)

We use Surrey Pet crem. they also take or clinical waste and sharp boxes ect.

We did go with PCS for a short time but then we swapped back not sure why.

We use Dignity. Its a small family firm. They are a very helpful team and also handle things beautifully. I would recommend them every time.

Seeing it, it was all very nice, and I would be happy to use them if my pet died but not if your have a horse a lil undignified having ashes lying around in wheel barrows with flies flying around them!

I don't suppose anyone can guarantee it but I'm happy to recommend the crematorium we use, Companions Haven at Pucklechurch near Bristol. Last year I took my old greyhound after he'd been PTS at home. Although they are closed at the weekend they let me take him on a Saturday morning. They were very kind and appear to be a small, family run business. His ashes were returned to the practice the following Tuesday. My lovely lurcher had to be put down a few weeks ago after a very short (24 hours) and unexpected illness and as she was PMd they collected her. Again, her ashes were returned the next time they came to collect from us. The labels are hand written and scatter boxes are beautifully wrapped. They've been very helpful in the past, including locating a dog that had been sent for mass cremation when the owner changed their mind and decided they wanted the ashes back. I don't think they deal with other clinical waste but I'm not certain of this.

I've also had very good service from two other relatively small crematoria in Surrey: Surrey Pet Cemetary & Crematorium in South Godstone for a dog and one in Guildford for a horse. I dealt with them directly as I wasn't working in the veterinary field at the time.

I've heard this way is used. I'd rather if it were an individual crem is was actually done individually, i'm sure doing it on a tray like that there will be a bit of mixing going on? Not sure what PCS do, but i can image most places do it this way to save on cost and time.

We use PCS too. My guinea pigs had priv crem with them. When it comes to Jack (very morbid to think about it i know, esp as he's only 2) i will take him to Dignity myself. I've heard very good things about their service, and couldn't bear the thought of him being put in a chiller in a bag, shoved in a van and man handled.

I thought they 'sieved' the ashes before giving them out? At least that's what they do with people on life of grime!

A nurse in my last practice sent her hamster for individual crem at Cremate-a-pet (what a name!) in Winchester. The ashes returned were the same amount they she had for her cat! She complained and didnt get a very good explanation.

Cambridge Pet Crematorium will allow clients to take their pets for individual cremation and also have a garden of rememberance owners can visit.

When a very upset client told me her so called friend said that pets were not cremated individually and that she probably had been given a mixture of any old ashes I contacted CPC myself. They told me that the bodies are put on to individually numbered trays and then put into a large cremator. So they are technically cremated separately I suppose not individually but you do get the actual pet's ashes back.

I suggest you find out who your company is and contact them direct.
