Radiography is my weak point so after some advice. We have a digital xray processor at work. The other day we took a view of both forelimbs on the same cassette (2 exposures) (I know you shouldn't do this with digital - vets choice!) using settings

Re: Radiography help!

[quote user="Kate Claxton"]

Agree with previous posts that the plate ideally needs to be flooded prior to use and if not, it would cause the problem you're experiencing - we always do ours immediately before exposure.

Just to be a little bit picky - it's not digital radiography or a digital radiography system you're using if you're having to flood and process plates. Digital radiography involves an image being captured directly onto a detector and appearing instantly on a PC screen, with no processing step is involved at all. You're referring to computed radiography, commonly referred to as CR or a CR system.

If you used a cassette that hadn't recently been through the processor (and therefore not deleted/cleared) it could have been caused by exposur to light in the room. We were told that due to the sensitivity of the cassettes, the final image can be affected depending on the light in the room in which the cassettes are stored. For this reason, they should be put through the processor a couple of times a week to clear the screens.

Hope this makes sense to you and isn't just a ramble!

Re: Radiography help!

Both exposures were taken on the same plate (covering with lead the side that had already been exposed).

The plate is moved into the digital processor automatically. I guess there is a chance that the casette could be damaged. I've only been at this practice for a month so not sure how the cassettes are handled but they are stored horizontally in draws and I know they are supposed to be stored upright so maybe an issue?

I guess it could just be a technology glitch with the processor.

Thanks for your help

Re: Radiography help!

Obviously, using a digital system cuts out the processing so you can't blame under development, which is what I would say has happened if you were using conventional radiography.

how is the phosphor plate (where the latent image is stored) moved into the digital processor?? Is it automatically taken out of the cassette or is it manual moved across in dim light?? Over handling of the phosphor plate can cause the image to fade....

Also could the cassette of become damaged??? this would allow light to get into the cassette causing the image to fade and this may give you the milky appearance.

Sorry I can't give you a definite answer, I haven't had much experience of using digital set ups.....
