Just a thought..... if you have an affected Toyota that has been recalled due to a fault like that but you carry on driving it in the interim period you may be in 'deep do-do's' if something goes wrong. I am guessing that if you have an accident related to the fault your insurance company would use that as a way of wriggling out of paying.

yes i had a friend who carried on using his vectra after being notified of an airbag fault (was actually waiting for the approved garage to fit him in for repair) airbag went off, he ran into the back of a tranny causing quite a bit of damage to it and was touch and go if his car would be written off or not. insurance refused to pay because he knew about the fault. he was able to claim against manufacturer however because the reason the repair had not been carried out sooner was that he had to wait for the approved garage to fit him in and also when he went into the garage to book the repair and had asked if the car was safe to use had been told 'well you been running around in it the last 6 months and nothing has happened'

Re: Anyone drive a toyota?

[quote user="Princess Ophelia Hermione MacBeth"]

Models affected by the recall:

AYGO (Feb 2005 - Aug 2009)
Only AYGO MMT is affected
**NEW INFORMATION**

iQ (Nov 2008 - Nov 2009)
Yaris (Nov 2005 - Sep 2009)
Auris (Oct 2006 - 5 Jan 2010)
Corolla (Oct 2006 - Dec 2009)
Verso (Feb 2009 - 5 Jan 2010)
Avensis (Nov 2008 - Dec 2009)

Insurance companies will try anything to part with your money, thieves. But they have to prove you didn't know about it, with it being all over the news...it's kinda hard to not know about it.

Re: Anyone drive a toyota?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8496902.stm

Re: Anyone drive a toyota?

Just a thought..... if you have an affected Toyota that has been recalled due to a fault like that but you carry on driving it in the interim period you may be in 'deep do-do's' if something goes wrong.
There're simple tips if you do get a problem, push the clutch, that'll disengage the engine from the wheels. So you can roll to a stop. It's also worth noting that your brakes will be powerful enough to overcome the engine. If that doesn't work, de-clutch and as a last resort, just turn the engine off, indicate off the road and hazards on.

In any case it'll take 30 minutes at a Toyota dealer to fix. You can check here: http://www.toyota.co.uk/recall/ to make sure.

Hope you're not one of the ones affected!
