We have been told we can have 20% discount off prices instead- does this mean vet staff will have to start buying

Re: cost price drugs/food

Thanks everyone, I will see what happens next.

Re: cost price drugs/food

You could discuss with a friendly vet them taking out an nvs or dunlops etc direct buy then it won't interfere. Only get an account with most of them if over £500. If you use your practice as delivery place and same group your practice use they can send the items there and don't usually charge extra post as they are going there with practice order. I know a couple of vets that do this.

Re: cost price drugs/food

[quote user="Vicky SVN"]

That's not even taking into account vaccinations, wormers and food for her and the cats!!!

Re: cost price drugs/food

if benefits in kind have been declared as part of your earnings they should show on your p60 as taxable income

Re: cost price drugs/food

[quote user="Nick Shackleton"]

Some years ago i accepted a job as a head nurse on the same wage as another nurse in the practice because i was allowed to live in the flat foc.( the use of the flat was supposed to compensate for the relatively low wage) then came the crunch - tax man decided that during my employment i had paid insufficient tax because of 'benefits in kind' i was then taxed on the 'value' of the accomodation and utility bills - so i received a lower wage because of the flat and then ended up paying tax on the flat as well. ( which i later found out my employer was already aware of because they had done this to the two previous nurses - but hey it meant they got away with paying a lower wage until they got found out )this screws up your tax code for the next year and possibly following year.

Anybody living above the shop in Northamptonshire beware - make absolutely sure you dont end up getting stung by the taxman because the boss has pulled a fast one!

Re: cost price drugs/food

[quote user="sal the 1st"]

you might be paying the VAT but who is to say your boss is paying it to Mr VAT man? also staff discounts can be counted as benefits in kind and if you take that into account your actual earnings may be more than the declared earnings - it can alter your national insurance/ income tax
